Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Kurt Andrew Ford

Like alot of you I was one of the lucky ones that can call Kurt my friend and my brother. I met Kurt in 2002 when he came to Douglas County. We both went through FTO at the same time and I learned alot from him. No matter how bad my day was or how stressed I was about FTO, Kurt would always smile at me and tell me it would be ok and he was right! I was selected to go to SWAT school in 2004 and I remember Kurt coming in when I was running on the treadmill or lifting weights and he would always pump me up for the school. No matter how tired I was, I always ran that extra mile to be ready. I only served on the SWAT team with Kurt for a short time but I would follow him anywhere!!! Kurt I am thankful you were part of my life and I miss you greatly!! This has truly been one of the longest days of my life!! To Kurt's family, I am sorry for your loss and you are in my prayers! And to Kurt, I know you are in heaven smiling down on us and protecting us. Thank you for your service to your community, thank you for being a great family man, and thank you for being my friend!!

The information was handed to me at the being of the shift... "Officer killed in the line of duty"... another officer made the ultimate sacrifice... this time from a surrounding county. Most of the guys in our county knew you, I have probably talked to you on the phone but never met you... I wish I would have had that opportunity. It is a quiet day on the sheriff channel today... all of my deputies 10-8 today are on the SWAT team and were in Newton early this morning. I wish things had gone differently, we lost a good deputy today. Our thoughts are with you Deputy Ford, Harvey County, and Det. Eilert's full recovery.

Kurt hepled me get my start at Harvey Co. and I will always be greatful. Kurt told me once to,"Always examine the situation and make sure that justice will be served by your action." Meaning that sometimes a warning goes farther than a ticket.
Kurt, you are a HERO and YOUR sacrifice will not be forgotten! Thank you!
To all of Your family my thoughts and prayers!

To the family/friends/co-workers of Dep. Ford;

It takes a special person to charge forward when danger is immenent, not every person has the fortitude to do this. Please understand that you are part of a larger family that is nationwide, even though you cannot see us, we are all around you. I never knew Dep. Ford, but yet I understand the thoughts he experienced while performing his actions. Words cannot replace your loss, so I will not try, but we do understand!!! Remeber, Faith, Hope and Love, for the greatest of these is Love! That is why we do what we do! Keep the faith!

Kurt, Jill and the boys were our neighbors for 3 years. They were the kind of people you turned to when you needed help, and always got it. Kurt was there for me when my own brother was shot in the line of duty last year. He asked for updates and put him on the prayer chain at the Sheriff"s Dept., then he continued to ask about him and encourage my family to "hang in there".
We are all deeply saddened by the loss of Kurt. He was a good person, and the world was a better place while he was here.
Our thoughts and prayers will be with Jill and the boys. Please know that we will never forget the service Kurt gave to all of us. Hang in there. You are all loved.

I was only able to know Kurt for a very short period of time. In that time, however, I was able to realize quickly what a professional and truly good person he was. Those of us who were able to know him, how matter how long, are blessed to have had the opportunity.

Kurt left us while doing the job that he loved. My prayers and thoughts are with the Ford family.

I had the great opportunity to work with and learn from Officer/Deputy Ford. We worked an accident together while in the FTO program. Kurt opened his note pad and covered the entire accident on it. I thought he was kidding, but he didn't miss a bit of info. Kurt was the officer everyone could go to for help or advice and he new what to say to cheer anyone up. Kurt you will be missed on earth but Heaven is blessed to have you watching out from above. Your family is strong and have the brother's in blue looking out for them.

Kurt was a well educated Officer, and an even better father. I only worked next to Kurt for a month at the Shawnee Police Department, however he was able to teach me as much as I could teach him. He was an excellent father, husband, and a great Officer.

My prayers are with the Ford Family.

I never knew Officer Kurt, but he used to live across the street from my sister in Colorado and was concerned for me when I was shot on duty. He used to always ask her about me & how I was doing, & showed great empathy and concern for me. I wish I would have had the honor of meeting Kurt. Kurt is the true definition of a hero, for giving his life while trying to protect a complete stranger. My prays go out to his family, Jill, Preston & Adam. God bless you & know that God has reserved a spot for Kurt next to him in Heaven. Rest in peace brother, it's our watch now.

I had the great pleasure of being a S.W.A.T. brother to Kurt Ford while he worked for DCSO. Kurt was just where he wanted to be, and that was the first operator through the door. Kurt was one of the truely great cops in the world.

I also had the pleasure of working with Kurt's wife Jill, and send my love to her and their children.

My only regret is not being there to follow Kurt through the door... You will be missed brother.... you will be missed. Vadis Vado!

A deep debt of gratitude to you for your service!

My deepest thoughts go to your family, friends, and co-workers during this difficult time.

I wish I could have been there for you on that fateful day. I've rushed into a house under the exact same circumstances (as most of us in uniform have), and my fortune has been better than yours was during this incident. I can reflect on your death with thanks in seeing my family later today and hope that the next time one of us have to rush into a house like that, that we'll be luckier.

Salute, my brother!

Upon the markers of their graves
Our heroes etched in names we save
For all the life they gave with pride
To keep the peace within life's stride

To honor serve and do their best
To keep us safe through any quest
They gave up what was theirs to share
Their spirits shall be always near

No fear within the hearts and minds
To keep us safe within our times
The glory that is ours to see
Those special hearts of bravery

They have walked where no man dare
Their lives in danger with no care
For they have given all they could
For their courage we have stood

In awe of every one who gave
His life for others who they saved
So we will know their contribution
Their firm resolve and resolution

For those they left with hearts so broken
In every whispered word that's spoken
We bow our heads in confirmation
In every word life's revelation

Those who stand within their shoes
Will follow courage as they choose
And give to all the best they had
They carry on with spirits glad

We will know that they walked through
With colors bright and hearts so true
No Island stands alone they say
For heroes they are born this way

Protecting those with loyalty
A glimpse of so much royalty
Within the years of courage bound
These officers have earned their crown

Upon the earth we shall remember
The special goals and all their thunder
That proves a hero came our way
Who left their hearts on earth to stay.
