Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Kurt Andrew Ford

Kurt Ford was one of the truly wonderful people that I have ever met. His attitude toward life and everything in general was relected in everything he did. He was one of my academy teachers and taught me more about police work in the conversations we had than anyone else. I will truly miss him.

To Jill and the boys, my prayers are with you always. You are always loved.

Keep watch brother.

I worked hard for you
Put in mornings, days, and nights
For this was the job I was born to do
I'm a sworn Deputy Sheriff through and through

I wore my shield proudly upon my chest
Holstered my weapon
Shined my boots
And tightly secured my vest

The hours were long and
The paychecks small
But for the friends I have made
I would change nothing at all

I never changed the world
Now we both know this is true
But I never thought this would happen Lord
I was one of the brave in blue

I lay here
For the first time the sirens sound so loud
How can this be happening Lord
I served my country proud

I worked hard for you
How could this be
I wasn't suppose to go like this
He shouldn't of got the drop on me

When you fold my flag
And hand it to my wife
Tell her I died heroically
Tell her I lived a good life

I always upheld the law
Acted fairly without prejudice
But now as I go Lord
I ask that you promise me this

Tell my 2 sons their daddy is proud
Allow them to reach the top
So I can rest peacefully
Knowing they will never became a cop

Thanks for you for the ultimate sacfraice Dep. Ford know that u will never be forgotten, yet another has crossed the thin blue line. My deepest sympathies go out to Dep. Ford's family, friends, and fellow co-workers, thanks for your service as a great Deputy Sheriff. As you have taken your final call and the will lay u join the other fallen brothers in blue, rest in peace Deputy K. Ford

I will never forget this day as long as I live. I will always remember when one of our officers came by my house in the early morning hours to tell me that Kurt and Chris were involved in a shooting. I worked that entire morning in shock and disbelief that something like this could happen, especially to Kurt and Chris, two of the best officers I have ever known.

My memories of Kurt will be that he was a caring and helpful officer. I can remember asking him to respond to Hesston to answer a question I had. Knowing I was new, Kurt took time out of his schedule that day to sit there and talk to me about law enforcement. Kurt told me that integrity and honesty was all that mattered in this job, and that if I went on a call and didn’t know what to do, just do the moral and decent thing and it would come out all right.

Kurt I didn’t work with you long, and I’m sorry we didn’t have the opportunity to become better acquainted. I never thanked you for coming to Hesston and talking to me that one morning, but I’m glad you took the initiative to do it. You saw that I was new and struggling, but your desire to help didn’t go unnoticed by me.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Deputy Ford.

While no one who wears a badge wants to be put into such a situation, you put yourself into the line of fire to protect those whom you might not have even known despite the danger. While I did not have the privilege to have known you personally, I am certain that you have found a place in heaven.

Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

I was shocked and completely dumbfounded with the news of Kurt’s passing. I was fortunate enough to work with Kurt for a short time at Shawnee PD. I didn’t know Kurt very long but the short time I knew him and the few times we shared will forever be in my mind. Once in a while in this job you come across a person that makes you wish you knew half of what they know and could do the job half as good as them and be half the man as them. In my career I’ve been lucky enough to work with a handful of people I would put on that list and Kurt is one.

I know there is nothing that can be said to make the pain easier for his family and friends; only time will ease the pain and loss. My heart and prayers go out to everyone affected by this tragedy, especially Kurt’s family. Kurt, thank you for your service.

I had the chance to know Kurt Ford in 2003 while he worked for Douglas Co., CO. What a great person! Always a winning smile on his face and a personality to match. He enjoyed his job and loved his family. He has left such an impression on so many people, and he will never be forgotten. All that knew him will agree. Once again, I am reminded that life is short for all of us. Kurt lived his life to the fullest, and my next toast goes to celebrate the time we were allowed to share with him!

I had the great opportunity to meet Kurt and Jill Ford. I was completing his background check for him to come to the Shawnee Police Dept. I sat in his kitchen with both he and Jill and talked for three hours. It seemed more like long time friends talking, than me trying to complete the background.

I call it a background check, but I never heard anyone say anything but positive and unbelieveable stories and information about him.

I was once told that a man can be judged by his character, by how his children turn out. When I met the two Ford boys, I was amazed at how polite and respectufl they were. This is no doubt because of the great father they had in Kurt.

To Jill and your two sons, I am sorry I forgot their names, GOD BLESS. I am sorry for your loss !!!

Kurt keep an eye on us up there, you you will missed by ALL of your Law Enforcement family.

Somebody Killed A Policeman Today

Somebody killed a policeman today, and
A part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too.
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at halfmast,
To his name, they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today.
It happen in your town or mine.
While we slept on comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died.
