Dear Kurt,
In three weeks it will be a year since you made your brave sacrifice. Your legacy has been one of excellence. Your fellow team members and others in law enorcement have paid honor to you in the work they have done. Despite the trauma they and their families and friends have had to work through, they continue to serve our community in an admiralble way. We still wear bracelets in your honor and have stickers on our cars to show the world our gratitude for your gifts to us. Please continue to watch over those who still are on watch over us.

A Deputy Sheriff Officer
A Deputy Sheriff Officer is a person, just like you and me
A person looking for things, we cannot see
He is a person doing a job, the best that he can
He say's what he has to, than he takes his stand
Even with no help, he does what he has to do
Not really for his self, but for me and you
He see's things, that for most people it would haunt
But he is doing a job, that no one else wants
If you need him, he will be right there
The only reason, is because he cares
If you ever need him just give him a call
He will hurry, and won't give you the stall
He will put his life on the line, just for you
Just because he cares, not because he has too
He watch's over you, while you sleep at night
He makes sure that you, are safe when it comes daylite
If the time comes, when a Deputy Sheriff Officer does not care
It will be because, he is no longer there
I will always HONOR him and take my stand
Because he is my FRIEND and also a Deputy Sheriff Officer

Kurt, Michelle and I made a desktop background picture that will be the background on all of the MDTs in every patrol car. It's not much, but I thought that it was important for you and Ron to be the first and last thing that everyone sees on their shift for a while...

Hello again Kurt,
Things are getting better. The Team is extremely dedicated to training. They are ready to do the work. This crew is good. We learned from the April callout.
Things have really changed in good ways. ALL of the projects you and I plannedfor the team are almost completed. Imagine... 13 years of goals, accomplished in 6 months.
We've got your gear bag in the van, with us, where it belongs.
Talk later...

To the family and friends of Deputy Kurt Ford and his fellow deputies with the Harvey County Sheriff's Office, and officers in the other law enforcement agencies with whom Deputy Ford served:
On behalf of our entire family, I wanted to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Deputy Ford was so brutally murdered. It is so infuriating to read of yet another murder by a criminal who would rather kill to evade arrest than pay the consequence for the criminal conduct he chose to commit. This was such a senseless and cowardly act, but then generally those who terrorize their own family members with domestic violence are cowards and bullies.
May you continue to find comfort in the warm embrace of support and love from your law enforcement community. Undergoing a devasating experience like this forges bonds between blood families and police families that can never be broken.
Our family lost our beloved Larry Lasater of the Pittsburg Police Department when he was fatally shot on April 23rd during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers. Larry left a loving wife and his son, born 2 1/2 months after Larry's murder, as well as all his extended family and friends who loved him so much. It is so heartbreaking that all these children are being deprived of their parents. My heart goes out to all the loved ones of Deputy Ford, but I know that God and Kurt are watching over them. I know that Heaven has another hero, but how I wish this had not happened to your Kurt.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the many years of service Kurt gave to the communities he served and the citizens of the state of Kansas, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 9, 2005.

Hey brother, just been thinking of you recently. This years 3-gun match, for me, just wasn't the same without you there. I know you were with us though, guiding us and keeping our spirits high. We had a moment of silence before starting the match in your honor. I know, I know, you were not about being singled out, but you touched so many people, it was with great honor that we did. I miss you and your positive personality. You did make a difference in my life. Until we meet again.

It has been two months since you let us for your new home in heaven. Not a day goes by that I don't stop to think about you. I miss you so much. The little talks that we had will stay with me the rest of my life until we meet again in heaven. You will be in my thoughts and dreams day and night. Keep watching all of us from above. Make sure that all of us make it home to our loved ones. Until we meet again in heaven my Odie. Love ya, miss ya, see ya always and forever.

Words cannot describe the sorrow and rage that I feel... I miss you. I miss the talks that we used to have. You could always tell when I was having a bad day at the office and needed to get away. I learned alot from you, and you left an indelible print on my life. Just as you have with so many others. Our relationship went beyond SWAT and the S.O. I pray for Jill and the boys. Vadis Vado.

I had the pleasure of meeting Kurt at an N.R.A. Instructor course in September of 2003. He had just completed his first call out with Douglas County SWAT. His professional and skill was eclipsed only by his smile and great sense of humour.
Kurt, I'll miss you brother.
