Once again, Sgt. Kight's death demonstrates the irrationality of the criminal mind. A traffic offense becomes a capital offense because a person doesn't think through the possible consequences of his actions and another officer gets buried. What a waste of lives. Rest In Peace.

As it is often said, there is nothing "routine" about a traffic stop. Everytime a peace officer conducts a traffic stop, I hope they take heed and that Sgt. Kight is looking over them. Thank you Sir for your service to you country and fellow man. My thoughts and prayers to the Kight family, friends, and the entire Panama City Beach Police Dept. RIP brother.

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family, friends and fellow officers of Sgt. Kevin Kight. I hope that you can take some comfort in the fact that Sgt. Kight is in heaven, sitting next to God. He sacrificed his life, protecting the citizen's of Panama City. As it says in the Bible, "Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends". I would like to share a poem that was left on the reflections of a fellow Columbus Police Officer's, (Bryan Hurst-EOW 01/06/2005) page.
"A Part of America Died"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.
The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
and a part of America died.

God Bless you Sgt. Kight. You have made the ultimate sacrifice. Your tragic death will not be in vain. We at the Marianna Police Department are praying for you and your family.
To the officers of the Panama City Beach Police, be strong, be there for each other and take comfort in knowing that others are there for you also. We are all brothers and we will not forget the sacrifices and challenges that you must face.
To Sergeant Kights family, your husband was a HERO he proved that every time he put on his uniform. To Sgt. Kights son, your father was a brave man, know deep in your heart that he loved you very, very much. Never forget what he has done, and be proud of what he did. Always remember that he is with you no matter where you go or what you do. God Bless you All, You are all in our prayers.

Kevin,
The loss of you comes as a shock to me and all of the other officers of the department. Over the six years you were with us, you always had a positive outlook on everything. You were always a pleasure to work with and I regret that I will not be working with you anymore. We did our best, and we made sure we caught your killer so that he may receive justice and you and your family receives peace. You will be missed more than any words can ever say. We love you, but we are comforted by the fact you are now in a much better place. Rest in peace Sergeant.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.
Tonight, March 28, 2005 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Sergeant Kevin Kight who died in the line of duty just yesterday.
When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.
Sgt. Kight's sacrifice will never be forgotten.
