Reflections for Police Officer Jesse Erick Sollman
The loss of Brother Officer Jesse Sollman will forever leave a dark cloud above the Easton area. Although I work for the neighboring department, this tragedy has pulled on our departments heart strings as well. Immediately after this horrific tragedy, Chief Greg Dorney (as well as additional departments in the area) scheduled officers from Forks Township to cover the streets of Easton to allow the brothers and sisters from Easton a few days to mourn. After working the streets in Easton city for only three 12 hour shifts, I have an even deeper respect for the police officers in Easton. God Bless each of you!
Each year I spend National Police Week in Washington, DC. On May 15, 2006, your name will adorn the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall. This will allow everyone to see how you stood tall, worked hororably and paid the ultimate price in doing what you loved most.
May you rest in eternal peace. Although at this very point in time it is very difficult for everyone to understand, but with our faith we do recognize that you can't be any-place better than seated next to the father. Police the streets of Heaven and be forever safe.
And finally Jesse; after seeing your brothers and sisters on your department the past two weeks, and believe me they are hurting very badly, rest assured they are making sure your family will be safe and secure here.
Rest in forever peace BROTHER.
Fraternally,
Craig F. Marshall

I did not know Jesse or his family but I am extremely saddened by this tragedy. My heart goes out to Carin, Jacob and Savannah. May God help them find the strength to move on...may they always hold their memories of Jesse close to their heart. I wish I could do something to comfort them. I hope they know that so many people are praying for them and thinking of them every single day. God Bless you all. Rest in peace Jesse

My fiancé, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis was a Deputy Sheriff with the Davis County Sheriff's Office in southeast Iowa. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Jesse did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Jesse be the last to die this way.
Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Sollman's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his wife. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you. If you ever need anything please do not hesistate to contact me. Dennis' department will always know how to reach me.
Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Jesse is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Jesse was well respected and well loved. You were blessed to have had him in your life, even for a short time.
Thank you Officer Sollman for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiancé Dennis for me.
Wishing you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne :)

Jesse loved his wife, his children, his family, his brothers in blue, his friends and the community he served. He was a formidable adversary, and a dedicated peace officer. He lived each day to its fullest, with a gusto unique to him. He touched so many lives, as witnessed by the number who paid tribute to him at his memorial service and his funeral.
It was an honor to work with him during his tour of duty as a police officer in the City of Easton. Could he talk your ear off and make you laugh until you cried! Now, we cry because he has left us far too soon.
As he crossed the Rainbow Bridge, his canine partner, Finn, leapt with joy as his master finally joined him, to resume their watch together in heaven. Those left behind shed thousands of tears -- each a testament to the incredible man who was Jesse Sollman.
To Carin, his children and his family: I mourn your loss. As long as you keep him alive in your hearts, he will never truly be gone. To his brothers in the Easton Police Department: Continue the fight, in his memory and in his honor. And to Jesse: The light in all our lives is dimmed with your passing. I will miss your smile, your wit, your words of encouragement and your friendship. May you rest in peace.

No words can describe the pain of the last week. I didn't lose a friend, I lost a brother. Even though we only worked together for 9 years, you left me with a lifetime of memories and stories. I will use those memories and stories to fill the void in my heart. Rest easy brother, the boys will take care of business here for you. Until I see you again, "Eines Fur Alles" brother.

Jesse is several people to me, all very important. He is my son-in-law, he is the father of my grand childred, he is the husband and provider for my daughter, he is a brother to my other son, he is a second son to me, as well as a loving friend. Today Sunday April 3, 2005 I was asked by my grand daughter to put together a Spiderman Bike for her brother, Jesse's son, because she said, "daddy isn't here to do it".
Every place I turn I see Jesse's imprint on our lives, trying to help us make whatever we are doing just a little bit better. Everyone who reads this should try to be a better policeman, father, brother, husband, wife, person. Try to treat everyone you meet just like Jesse treated you.

Jesse, you were my friend and my brother. My heart is so heavy with sadness and loss. Your inspiration made me a better officer and person. I'll never forget our talks together, because you were one of the few that made me feel that I belonged. I'll miss the teasing and goofing around that was almost a daily occurance for us. I promise that if I can ever help Carin and your children I will be there. I will always remember you, my brother, my friend, and my teacher. A part of my heart has gone with you and I look forward to the day I can once again see you. Until then, look over all of us my brother, and help us carry on to be the best that you would expect us to be. I love and miss you.

Good or bad, Feelings need expression, they must be recognized and given freedon to reveal themselves. It isn't wise to hide behind a smile when your heart is breaking, that is not being true to how you feel inside. By letting out your feelings, your pain is released, and your are able to go on to reconstruct your life and think of other things that will make you happy again. God Bless The Easton Police Department.

Words can not be said on how I, along with my other team members, and Department feel about this tragedy. Our broken hearts go out to your family, your team, and brother and sister officers. It goes without saying to know that you are looking down to watch over your wife, your babies and families. Please keep your fellow officers strong. I have been observing some wonderful acts as they try to help your family and themselves through this. Brother, they are doing you proud!
You have also made some strong friendships with others and we are all hurting, but are doing, and will do, what needs to be done to help out.....as you would expect us to.
So just go and be with Finn.
Rest peacefully 56.
Thank you for the memories that you have given each of us. You will forever be missed.

To hear of a fallen Brother is always a tragedy. You Jesse served and protected not only your country but my hometown. I was born in Easton, and my life and decision to become a Police Officer was because of Easton's Finest.
Peace be with you and your family. Rest now my brother in the arms of our God for he now will watch over your family and find peace in knowing they will never be alone.
Go with God.
My prayers are with you and your family.
