I had the honor and pleasure of serving with Pvt. Joe Murphy in January and February 1956 at the Quartermaster School in Ft. Lee, Virginia. On at least 2 or 3 Saturday afternoons we, along with one or two other soldiers, went into Petersburg and Richmond just for R & R. On Sundays, however, we could always count on finding Joe at the Chapel. His Christian ethics followed him wherever he went.
It was once reported back to me by another soldier that a particular Sargent made mention to Joe of his importance of relationship to his brother Auidie. Joe reportedly calmly replied to the effect, "You leave my brother out of this. I will make my own reputation."
I shall always remember Joe as a man without any vises and most humble and pleasant person to be around.
While that was nearly 60 years ago I still miss Joe, and I am sure countless others do as well.
See you a little later, my friend.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 44th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect, and your memory will always be honored and revered. Your brother is also a hero for his most distinguished service in WWII. I cannot help but be in awe of your parents who raised two, if not more, genuine American heroes. They must have been outstanding patriots to have raised such brave and selfless men who gave all.
Rest In Peace.

I've always heard of Audie Murphy being a WWII hero, but I did not know of you -- you are just as much a hero! Thanks for your service to your department and to the citizens of Frisco, TX.

I just left a comment in the guestbook on the Audie Murphy memorial website. It is staggering to read about his life and the medals he received in performance of duty. No less are Patrolman Joe Preson Murphy's heroics. Anytime someone is willing to risk life and limb in the performance of their duty it should be duly noted, honored and remembered. To that end I offer my condolences even at this late date to the family (I believe I have read that there may have been l2 children born to their sharecropper parents) and my deepest respect for the unselfish acts that both these brothers displayed in the pursuit of protecting and serving their country. I hope that their parents are witnessing from wherever they are what fine sons they had. May both Patrolman Joe Preson Murphy and his brother Audie Leon Murphy rest in God's eternal peace. God's blessings on the family members they both have left behind.
