My father was your nephew. He was named after you (Willard Reed Hall, Burnsville, NC) and I have always heard your story. I will visit the memorial the next time I am in DC. I would love to have met you. Your story remains a reminder to me of what can happen on the job any given day.

Although I do not have any memories of our time together I am honored you served your state with such patriotism. My father and mother Leonard and Reba Hall told family stories to me so that I would know you and your family and the couragious deeds you did to keep us all safe. I am glad to have found this site as I have been researching my Father Leonard Hall and His Family.

Dear Great Granpa Willard
I am sure you know me i am your great grand daughter John was my Daddy . Corky and Shannie are my aunts, but let me explain what brought me here today. I recieved Mail today, From GOv Beasher asking me to come to a marmoeral service to honer you. It brought me to the computer to see what else I could learn about you. See my daddy fought so hard to get the honer and respect you deserved for being so brave. He made sure know one would forget what you did. He told me stories pasted on from his family about you and was really proud to call you grandfather even though god took you before he even got to meet you. Family was so important to my dad. Let me tell you Great gran pa you had a wonderful grand son he brought a smile to everyones face that came to know him. i want to thank you for helping so many people and being so brave, But i need to ask you a favor, I am really trying to be brave just like you and my daddy , but would you please watch over my daddy for me, See i am 11 and god took my daddy last year , as i am sure you know. Grand pa kiss daddy and tell him I love him, and remember i love you to, I understand how important family is through you my daddy taught me that. I will have my mommy take me to meet Gov Beasher and will stand proud to honer both you and my daddy.

Love

Dear "Corcky", what a beautiful reflection you left for your grandfather, after so many years and one can feel the love he left with all his family. Is my hope that some day my grandbabies would talk about their grandfather with the same love you do...

God Bless you

My Grandfather, Willard Hall, was inducted in to the National Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation in May of 2005. He was killed 57-1/2 years ago leaving a wife, 3 sons and 2 grandchildren who were forever painfully changed.

Memories of him were sweet and gently told to me by my parents, and my Grandmother (his wife) because I was only 2-1/2 years old when he was taken from us.

Grandpa (I called him “Foo Foo”) would come by our house, pick me up, tuck me behind his big shoulder and off we would go for a day of adventure.
He was the sweet, patient man who would let my sister, Shannon, and me climb over his belly, laughing and enjoying the unabashed, special love of a doting grandfather. My name is Martha, but he gave me the nickname of “Corky” because he said I was a “corker”. Even at sixty years of age I still prefer the name “Corky” because he gave it to me.

I cannot imagine how many times I asked for him not understanding why he wasn’t there any more. I have many memories of him tucked away in my heart and was very privileged to have had such a wonderful grandfather…..even for such a short time.
