I couldn't believe it Saturday morning when I heard that you too had been murdered by that coward. I pray that God watches over your family & gives them the things they need to sustain them in days & years to come. The pain is unbearable on some days so you can't handle it alone. I feel the heartbreak for them as I have felt the pain myself.

I HAVE A HERO....
I have a Hero,
This person is one who gets dressed for work each day just like everyone else
I have a Hero,
Who kisses their spouse and children before they leave for work not knowing if they will return at the end of the day to hold them once again
I have a Hero,
Who must confort the scared, console the troubled, and protect even the gulity
I have a Hero,
Who arrives to a situation where a child has been killed and must remember that the suspect has "rights"
I have a Hero,
That puts on a uniform each day with a vow to Serve and Protect
I have a Hero,
Who was killed in the Line of Duty today, and with him a part of America died
I have a Hero,
Who goes by the name of Police Officer....
May God Bless all of Our Fallen Brothers and Sisters in Blue. While we honor the lives of those no longer with us.

I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to the family, coworkers, and friends of Assistant SAC David Wilhelm . He has fought the good fight and has now gone to his reward. Many of our brothers and sisters are gone, but none are ever forgotten. May you rest in peace. John 15:13 "Greater love has no man than this, than to lay down one's life for his brother."

Dave, I cringed when they said your name on the television. Like everyone else who knew you, I thought "No! It can't be!"
The first time I met Dave was in 1988 when he came to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC)to attend the Criminal Investigator Training Program, and then, the Customs Basic Enforcement School. I remember him so well . . . he was a Southern gentleman, quiet in nature, humble but extremely proud. Dave didn't have to say or do anything . . . his mere presence let you know you were in the company of someone truely special. There was a presence about him . . . his respectability and personal qualities were readily obvious. As you came to know him with time, you realized that your initial impression was so accurate. He possessed great integrity, was wholesome, and although quiet by nature most of the time, very much a team player and leader.
At the time I was also a Special Agent with the U.S. Customs Service. I was assigned as an Instructor at the U.S. Customs Service Academy at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. I had the honor of being the Class Coordinator for Dave's class.
Like all his classmates, I wanted to be around him, hear what he had to say and admire his character.
One other thing I must share with my brother and sister officers reading this. Dave Wilhelm was a physical speciman, pure and simple. His physical stature and strength were beyond description. I remember working out in the gym with Dave and the rest of the class, and staring in amazement when Dave got on the bench press machine. I have got to say this . . . his murderer, was big, and undoubtedly from the pictures and reports, strong. But I know this in my heart of hearts . . . if Dave Wilhelm had been given a chance . . . half a chance . . . he would have rocked his world! Dave Wilhelm was a Special Agent . . . he had worked his way to Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Atlanta Field Office . . . but most of all, he was a man . . . a hell of a good man!
As all of us will Dave, I'll miss you . . . we'll never forget you . . . there will be another Assistant Special Agent in Charge to fill your position . . . but nobody can or will ever take your place! The flags at FLETC are all at half mast in honor of you Dave . . . you will always be honored.
My prayers to Dave's family and friends. With brotherly love and utmost respect, Jim Crotty (Former Richmond, VA Police Officer.)

It is at the end of the road where we are remembered. The truest testament of a worthy man's life is not how he died, but rather how he lived. Our heartfelt sorrow and condolences to ASAC Wilhelm's family. There is a hole in our lives that will never be filled. There but for the grace of GOD go we all.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow agents of Agent Wilhelm.
While no one who wears a badge wants to be put into such a situation, you found yourself in the line of fire unexpectedly, and despite of this, tried to protect the citizens of Georgia despite the danger posed by your killer.
While I did not have the privilege to have known you personally, I am certain that you have found a place in heaven.
Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

To the family, friends and co-workers my prayers are with you. I wish there was something that I could do to help you, but as we all know there is nothing. You will find strenght to help you through, it will be hard for the rest of your life, but the days will come and go. And there will not be a day that goes by that you will not think about David. I think of Clint everyday and wish that he was still here with us.
The one thing that kept popping into my head during our nightmare, was knowing that Clint loved being a police officer, and was always out to help somebody. I bet Agent Wilhelm loved his job also, he left us a hero.
Agent Wilhelm your family will miss you everyday but we will never forget you.
Look Clint up for me tell him I'm still missing him...

As a fellow survivor and Georgia citizen, I'd like to extend my deepest, most heartfelt sympathies to this special man's loved ones. The road ahead of you is unfortunately a long one, but people will be by your side every step of the way. There are no words to ease the pain and heartache and no answers to your biggest questions. Rest in knowing that David is in Heaven with his brothers and sisters in blue, including my fiancee, Cole, who was killed almost 2 years ago. God bless you all through the tears and the struggle to carry on with life here on earth.

We can only visualize how proud you were of the beautiful new home you were working on late Friday night. We can visualize you in a tshirt and work jeans laying tile, or doing in of the seemingly endless tasks that a home undergoing construction demands. How peaceful and content you must have been. The last thing you probably expected was to come face to face with your killer. As an ICE agent you are trained so well but no amount of training could have prepared you for the circumstances that ended your life. It wasn't fair. You should have been able to move into and enjoy your house and work in your yard. You are now in God's arms. Thanks for the job you did on earth.
