The policeman stood and faced his God, which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman. How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No lord. I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays and at time my talk was rough... and sometimes I've been violent because the streets are awful tough."
"But I never took a penny, that wasn't mine to keep... though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got just to step."
"And I never passed a cry for help, though at time I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I wept unmanly tears."
"I know I don't deserve a place mong the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear."
"If you have a place for me here, Lord it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don't... I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne, where the saints had often trod, as the policeman waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk the beat on Heavens streets. You've done your time in hell."

To the family and friends of Deputy Alex Burdette and fellow deputies with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office:
On behalf of our entire famiy, I wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered with the death of Deputy Burdette. I was saddened to read about the incident that took his life. In reading the reflections about him, it is obvious he was a bright young officer who was admired and loved by many. His dedication to his family and job will be forever remembered. How sad that he died at such a young age leaving a loving wife and two young children.
My family grieves with you and for you.
In April, we lost our beloved Larry Lasater of the Pittsburg Police Department when he was fatally shot during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers. His first child was born 2 1/2 months after his death. Knowing that all these children have to grow up without their father is so heartbreaking.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Alex gave to his community and the citizens of South Carolina, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 12, 2005.

Today was a day we looked forward to
This week was supposed to be special
Investigations is where you should be
But instead we are crying for you
People tell me how sorry they are
They don't know what words to say
All I know is how much it hurts
I wish you could live another day
When you went so did part of me
The part I can't ever get back
I wonder what your last thought were
I can't understand why it happened like that
Some people simply say
It was just your time to go
They all think I'm doing alright
But how could they really know
I know you're watching over us
Please look after the girls
The two that are left for me to love
And the one that walks with you above
Happy Birthday
We love you and miss you
Love Always Nicole

Alex, I can remember the days when we worked the district together. I remember your smile and the love that you showed for your family. The night that you paid the ultimate price I am sorry that there was not something I could do to help you. Every time I see your face tears come to my eyes and I want to know why. I know that we do not know God's plan for us. All we can do is accept it. Just know that you are loved by all of us. " Well done they good and faithful servant" Go home Alex we have it from here. To the family just remember that even Alex is not here in body his spirit will always be there to comfort and guide you.
