Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Patrolman Thomas J. McMeekin, Jr.

On behalf of the entire Lawn family I send my deepest sympathies. When I heard of Tom's death on the news, I cried because I knew the pain and heartbreak you were all feeling. I lost my husband and best friend. It is a pain no one can truly understand unless they have gone through it. Please help each other, comfort each other and tell Tom's daughter lots of stories of her father the hero. I know Tom will be with you to help you. You will feel him giving you strength. You will feel his love. Jennifer, my heart especially aches for you. As a mother of four I know the hardest thing to do is to tell your children that their father will not be coming home and then have to continually watch them in such pain and feeling so helpless. Your daughter will amaze you with her strength. You will thank God everyday that you have her, such a miraculous piece of your husband. I will be praying for you and your family everyday.

My heart breaks for Patrolman Thomas McMeekin Jr's wife and daughter. Unfortunately, I know all to well your pain as I have lost my husband of only 5 months on February 5, 2004, NJ State Trooper Bertram Zimmerman. This officers death feels so close to home for me because Atlantic City is just 40 minutes from my home.

Jennifer, I wish I could take all your pain away. Please know he is no longer suffering and is in such a safe place...in God's hands with the angels. You will never hear me say to you "He is in a better place" because I know as surviving spouses we think the "much better place" is here on earth with us. But you have to keep your husband alive in your memories, in your thoughts, and in your heart...he is you and your daughters new guardian angel in heaven. He will watch over you both and protect you both while he is patrolling the highways of heaven. I know Bert will show him all around up there so he will not be alone. And Tom will let you know he loves you in any way he can. Listen and pay attention to those signs. They ARE there. You will find amazing strength you never knew you had. And it will all be with the help of him.

You are so lucky, you have a beautiful daughter that you can see a little piece of your husband in every day. You are so fortunate for that. God bless that little girl and yourself. You have been in my thoughts and prayers constantly.

Sincerely,
Denise Zimmerman
Surviving Spouse of NJ State Trooper Bertram Zimmerman III
