To the Family, Friends, and Coworkers of Deputy Gammill I sent my deepest sympathy. I know that he will be on a safer beat and a less stressful place to work at now. To the Family of Blake I would like to say THANK YOU for allowing your husband and you father to assist the rest of us in trying to make the places that we live a much safer and pleasant place to live. To the Coworkers of Blake I would try to offer some words of encouragement to all of you. It may seem as though you have questions of wanting to go on? Or always worrying about the next call that you go on. I am here to tell you that with the loss of Deputy Bill Davis EOW 11-03-2003 it does take time for the wounds to heal, but as I have learned we add each memory of our fallen brothern to our little bag of insight. We have to remember to always keep the people in mind that have gone on before us, as they will never forget us when they watch over our 10-8's and our building searches and traffic stops. Again MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO YOU ALL.

Deputy Sheriff Troy Wellman
Moody County Sheriffs Office Flandreau, SD

Blake,
I cannot put into words the sadness I feel. It seems like yesterday you were my neighbor and telling me, everytime I saw you, "If you need me, throw a rock". I always felt safe just knowing you were here when Mikey was away. Thank you for all that you have done. We will take care of the family for you and tell your children, every chance we get, that their father was a true HERO. You will always be remembered!!!
God Speed!!!
I love you and I am sorry I never got to tell you that.

Blake...
I passed you in the hall at the Annex on Thursday afternoon. I kidded you about your picture in the calendar and asked for your autograph. You played along and we laughed. I did not know that less than 12 hours later, I would never see you in that hall again. Know that all of us at the Sheriffs Office will never forget you. You have left footprints on all of our hearts. God bless you for your sacrifice. God bless your family, your 2 beautiful girls, Haven and Jewel. God bless Dawn M. We will miss you always. "Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, you've done your time in hell." Rest in peace 591. We love you and miss you...

When I hear the name Blake Gammill, the attributes that come tomind are: couragous, loyal, dedication, determined, dependable, caring, understanding and precision.

Blake,
I know I only knew you for about two years but when I started you welcomed me with open arms. You always helped me when I had questions and for that I never Thanked You. I Love You as a co-worker and as a older brother. God Bless and have no fear your fiance, two daughters, and family will be well taken care of. Lastly, it really hurts not to hear "591 is 10-8" or "591 is 10-38" and "591 is 10-95" and "591, Douglas County is Clear Code 4 Remainder". God Bless you Dep. Blake Gammill.

Upon learning of Deputy Gammill's ultimate sacrifice, an incredible pain ripped through me, reminding me of moment I learned that a friend and co-worker was taken from us under tragically similar circumstances. (Detective Todd Fatta EOW: 08.19.04)

Deputy Gammill rose to the challenge he was called for, in protection of the community. He fulfilled his calling, and God called him home. Deputy Gammill's family, friends, and co-workers were blessed to have known him, and to have been touched by his soul. Your pain is shared by anyone who knows the dangers we face on a daily basis. May Deputy Gammill rest in eternal peace, and may the community NEVER FORGET his ultimate sacrifice, or the sacrifice of the family he so dearly loved. It is not only the law enforcement officer who gives, it is also the family of the law enforcement officer who sacrificies him/her for the community.

Today in the sun, I bid him farewell
A man, a hero, I never knew well

Like many before him, who answered the call
Wearing a badge, he was destined to fall

Though by choice a long life and a happy old age
Would he have chosen, had he written the page

But the office he chose never promised long life
Just half of his salary, for his child and his wife

He went without fear, into the darkness of night
Bringing comfort to some, to some others light

Easing their pain and calming their fears
He did his duty, never asking for cheers

A husband, a cop, he answered the call
We bid him farewell for he gave his all

Deputy Blake Gammill rest in peace fallen soldier as you will not be forgotten, and will be dearly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to dep.gammill's family and his fellow friends and officers

Dep. Gammill as u have taken your final 10-42, rest in peace thanks for the excellant job u did. it hard to say goodbye. GODBLESS

For the family of my brother, Blake Gammill:

“Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the children of God”. Matthew 5:9

I take pen to paper now because I know I could not say these words without crying. I am not a very smart person. I can’t find all the word myself to express the way I’m feeling as to the loss of Blake. So, as I do many times, I turn to words of men that I have heard in the past, words that brought great comfort to me during times of tragedy and great loss and add those words to mine.

We loved Blake as a brother and father and a son. From his parents and his family he received inspiration which he passed on to all of us. He gave us strength in time of trouble, wisdom in times of uncertainty, and sharing in times of happiness. He was always by our side.

Love is not an easy feeling to put into words. Nor is loyalty, or trust or joy. But he was all of these. He loved life completely an lived it intensely. Our awareness of this is an incalculable source of strength, and because real love is something that is unselfish and involves sacrifice and giving.

There were wrongs which needed attention. Blake knew he had a responsibility to them, and so he did his duty.

God bless you all.

For the members, my brothers, of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office SERT team:

We can remember, even if only for a time, that those that live with us are our brothers; that they share with us the same short moment in life; that they seek, as we do, nothing but the chance to live out our lives in purpose and happiness, winning what satisfaction and fulfillment we can.

Surely this bond of common faith, this bond of common goal, can begin to teach us something. Surely we can learn, at least, there is peace at the end of our journey and knowing this peace will only make our brotherhood stronger.

It has been my great honor to serve with Blake Gammill. Rest in peace my brother.

“Strength and Honor”
