Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Haven Blake Gammill
Blake,
You would have been so proud of the boys yesterday. I know you were watching from above. All of us wanted to make sure the world knew how much we love and respect you. Your family is amazing. They took care of us as we were trying to take care of them. I got to see just how you came to be the man you were. We sure do miss you, but today we climbed back into our cars and hit the street, we knew you would kick us if we didn't get back to it.
I told Fred I bet you got a new car and a radio that would get out no matter where you were patroling in heaven. Watch over us buddy.
Love,
#109

Brother I never met you, but I was at your funeral. There was not one person who had a bad thing to say about you. It showed how a great father you were when I saw your daughters, and how strong they were. It brought me to tears as the oldest looked at your soon to be wife and said, "Hey they are taking my Daddies Flag". I want you to know brother even though I never met you, you will be missed greatly by everyone, and thank you for taking care of the children, that you were trying to protect.
Please look out for us on the streets, RIP Brother.

Blake,
I didn't know you outside of work, I wish I had had that opportunity. I know you loved your job. It was apparent, no matter what the call you always had a smile on your face. You will be missed by us all. Thank you for being one to watch over us in our line of duty, My heart goes out to your family, and your Brother and Sister Officers.

Although I did not have the pleasure of meeting you, I do want to thank you for the protection and service you offered people like me during your time as a deputy. I escaped an abusive relationship several years ago. Although it took several years of arrests, protection orders, court appearances, and jailtime for him, I am finally happy and free of an angry hurtful man. I know that I would not be here right now if it were not for men like you who are willing to risk everything to help and protect someone like me. So, when I heard about this web site on wkhx 101.5, I wanted to just say thank you and God be with you. I will pray for your family and all of your colleagues around the country. I can't explain why your death has effected me so, I never knew you. But I felt compelled to share my feelings. God Bless.

Blake,
You are, no doubt, not only one of the finest deputies I have ever worked and trained around, but also one of the finest human beings I have ever known.
Words cannot express what we as individual officers and our department are going thru right now. This loss will be felt for a life time.
Blake was part of a small group of officers here at the sheriff's office that loved to ride motorcycles. Every year we made sure that we all got to ride in the ride for brother officers that had given thier lives in the line of duty, The law enforcement memorial ride. Blake we now ride for you everytime we saddle up.
I love you!!
I will never forget the times we shared
Ride free brother!!

As yet another Georgia officer joins the force in Heaven, I am brought to tears once more. There are no words that will take away the pain or make life more bearable. All I can offer you is my prayers and my sincere sympathy. I have been told for almost 2 years now that one day it will get better. I don't know how, if, or when that point comes, but I pray for it every day. Hold onto the memories and love that you shared with Blake. They will get you through the rough days somehow. Blake will send you some love and strength from above. (I have told my fiancee, Cole, to remind him that you all will be needing all of his love and support from Heaven.) My heart especially goes out to Blake's fiancee. It is a hard, lonely road to walk without the love of your life as I have found out all too well. I know that I am not "officially family" but the pain cuts like a knife just the same. I will be praying for you every single day as well as for the rest of Blake's family and friends, especially his parents...I do not know what it is like to have lost a child, but I have seen some of what Cole's mom has experienced first-hand and I don't know how she has made it through. Learn to ask for help, and know that there is a huge family out there that you have now become a part of...they call us "survivors." God bless you all.

Blake,
Words can't express the sorrow we are all going through now, especially your family. The one thing that has been comforting and will continue to be forever is knowing that you are watching over us all. You are now a beautiful angel in Heaven watching over everyone you love. Being the wife of a deputy for Douglas County, I am now more terrified than ever to watch my husband put on his uniform every morning and go 10-8. I pray everyday to the good Lord to watch over him. I know now that God has his finest angel handling that prayer request. That angel is you!
Thank you for your life! You will NEVER be forgotten. We love you Blake Gammill!

Deputy Gammill you are a true friend and brother. I was very fortunate to serve next to you while I was with the City of Douglasville. We spent many years side by side on the ball field. Your hard work and dedication on the field is the same way you lived your life, wide open. Blake I miss you but I'll never forget you.
To the Gammill family and friends my thoughts and prayers are with each one of you.

All of the employees here at the Douglas County Fire Dept are saddened by the loss of Dep. Gammill. Even though we work for different departments, we still work together. We're still brothers and sisters and when one hurts, we all hurt. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the Sheriff's Dept.

I did not know Blake very well, and had only worked with him a few times, since I work in a school, and only patrol during the summer. Blake was always willing to help if I needed him, and treated me like anyone else working with him. Making me feel part of "his team". This truly touched my heart. It's sad that although we work for the same department, there are officers that we do not know very well. I wish I had gotten to know him better. I know he was a great guy, who will be greatly missed.

Blake,
You were one of those people who touch the hearts of everyone you meet. Your father has thanked us for all the things we have done for your family these last few days, but we are the ones who should be thanking him. We should thank him for raising you to be the man you were and for giving us the honor of working with such a fine Deputy. Watch over us all until we come home.

Hi Blake,
I remember that, within the past two weeks, you were taking some good natured heat because a lot of suspects were lying to you when you talked to them. You told me that it was ok because it was all a part of your master plan, it was just your "country boy charm".
I listened to all of the people talking about how you tried to be a hero and an example for others to follow. I know that's not true. Even though your actions showed you were a hero, a leader, a shining star, and a cut above the rest, you never set out to do that. It was just your country boy charm.
Country boy, I miss you.

Blake,I remember the first time I met you at the sheriff's office. You had that "get the job done" look about you. I remember when I was an Investigator for the sheriff's office, you called me out one night with a burglar you caught on Thornton road. I said to myself, here's a Deputy doing the job he's paid to do. Rollin and patrollin on the nightshift, catching the bad guys.
Blake, I also remember the conversations you, Carlton and I would have in the weight room, while lifting weights. How you guys would tell me to be more laid back and not so hot headed. Well, you'd be happy to know I finally took the advise. It's funny how life works. Full of twists and turns, ups and downs. I guess this is something that we all know can happen, but choose not to think about.
I'll miss you buddy, you've fallen but you're not forgotten. You made to many friends to ever be forgotten. That was a true testimony at the service today. You did indeed die a warrior's death, moving foward, never backing up. Fighting the good fight. May you rest in peace, go with God.
To the family, may the lord give you strength in your time of sorrow.

blake, what can i say. i will always remember all the jokes you made about me having two kids that will only be 14 months apart, or how you teased me for being mr october in the calender.
more than anything, ill never forget you holding my little girl in your arms and telling me how beautiful she is and how lucky i am to have her. i remember one day i came up to the office and had to fill out some paperwork so you held my angel. she was teething and drooled all over you. you looked at me and smiled, then looked at her and said, " did you see the calender too?" i will never forget your dedication and the respect you had for yorself, this agency and your family. god bless and i love you.
