Blake,Blake,Blake,
It has been a week and I'm still in shock. You were one of the few people who knew me as "Mantha." I can still hear your voice, and it is so hard to comprehend that I will only hear it in my dreams until I see you again in Heaven. I couldn't sleep last Thursday night, something just felt wrong. Then Brande called. I didn't get to the phone in time, I just saw her number on the caller id. I knew something must be wrong and I tried to call her back time after time but the number was busy. I finally gave up, and started getting ready to go over to her house. In the mean time, Kristie called and told me what had happened. Brande's worst nightmare had come to fruition. And sleep was not to come for me that night. So, like Kristie, and I'm sure many others, I took out the photo albums. And I cried. And cried. And remembered... Comas Tollege (Thomas College) Where I first met you. Where you brought undying light to Brande's eyes. The mother of your beautiful girls and my best friend. The nights on your's and Brande's front porch swing when you lived in Cairo. The day you both left to head up to Atlanta. (We call the whole area up there Atlanta down here.) And I cried then. Then came your beautiful wedding. And Eddie sang so beautifully. The same song that he sang at your funeral, right after Brande paid her own loving tribute. And I cried again. I want you to know that your's and Brande's two little babies will always know you and they will always be taken care of. I took my little Braxton over to Brande's yesterday like I do every Tuesday and Thursday morning, and he hugged Haven's neck and told her he loved her. Blake, I'll tell you this - we will all be gone one day and that little boy Braxton and my other little boy Nathan will still be here taking care of your two girls. They all love each other, and that innocent childlike love that began when they were only babies will continue throughout their whole lives. My boys love your girls, and that gives me comfort like nothing else. Mrs. Stella, Mr. Dell, Eddie, and Anita - I love you and my heart goes out to you. And Dawn- we've never met, even though I saw you when you and Blake came down around Thanksgiving when Haven and Braxton had their pre-school play, but I know Blake loved you, and I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. Haven and Jewell Grace love you as well -let that part of Blake sustain you through this difficult time. And for the fine folks who work with the Douglas County Sherrif's Department, we feel your loss all the way down here in south Georgia. You lost a fine officer and friend and you have my utmost respect. It is comforting to know that Blake's two little girls have a family that extends farther than they could ever imagine. Goodnight Blake, rest easy, and sleep tight...until we all meet again. Stay in our dreams until then. And know...you are loved.

I still remember the first time we met. We were both working nightshift on Thornton rd. I dont remember if I stopped because of blue lights or if you asked for another unit. The only thing I remember is how appreciative you were for the back up because I believe Cadwell was 10-95. I always enjoyed working out there with you guys because I could always count on getting into something. The last time I remember actullly talking to you (besides in passing) was at breakfast one morning at Turners with Henry. I remember complaining about how bad things have gotten at the city. You sat there and listened with an open ear and offered words of support in between my ranting and raving. I was happy that someone was willing to sit and listen to my problems. Looking back my problems seem so petty now. I have always enjoyed working with you because I knew with out a doubt that my back was covered no matter what happened.
I along with others will mourn for a long time to come, we will also feel safe because we know you still have our back no matter what.
Thank you for all that you have done. You and your loved ones will be in my thoughts and prayers. Again THANK YOU.

BLAKE, I JUST WANTED YOU TO KNOW THAT JASON MILLHOLLIN, DONNY PARKER AND MYSELF MET AT SGT. ANDY COOKES HOUSE ON 02-27-05 FOR ONE LAST "MOTOR CARRIER SAFETY" GET TOGETHER. THE FIRST TIME I EVER MET YOU WAS WHEN I CAME TO DCSO AND YOU INTRODUCED YOUR SELF AND TOLD ME THAT YOU WOULD BE JOINING THE MCS UNIT SOON. YOU AND I HIT IT OFF RIGHT FROM THE START, I WAS SO LUCKY TO HAVE FOUND A FRIEND LIKE YOU. WE HAVE SO MANY THINGS TO LOOK BACK ON TO MAKE US LAUGH THAT YOU DID WHILE ON THE UNIT. ONE OF THE THINGS I STILL LAUGH ABOUT IS EVERY TIME I OPEN MY TRUNK ON MY PATROL CAR MY "BLAKE GAMMILL" LIGHTS COME ON AND FLASH, BLINDING ME AT NIGHT. THANKS.
I LOVE YOU AND WILL ALWAYS HAVE YOU WITH ME WHILE ROLLING AND PATROLLING!!
AND IT WAS AN HONOR TO HAVE SERVED ON YOUR "HONOR GUARD", I HOPE WE MADE YOU PROUD.

YOUR FRIEND, DEP. MATT GRAY

I want to say thank God for all the men and women in uniform. I'm only 16, but my dad is friends with many of them, and you see everyday how they go out not knowing if this is their last day or not. I've had the privilage to meet Deptuty Gammill and he was a wonderful man. I myself know several of the Douglas County Deputies. I saw one of them flip their cars b/c he lost control of his car when he was trying to stay out of my lane. He risked his life to keep my safe and all of the police officers out there will do that. But thank God neither of us were hurt. There is so much brotherhood in the department, especially in Douglas County. I mean when the Deputy that flipped his car, it seemed like almost instantly that all the other police officers were there. But I pray everynight for the family and friends of Deputy Blake Gammill. Thank you so much for serving your community and keeping other people safe, and putting your life at risk for us....and that goes to all the polive officers also. Rest in Peace Blake.... We will always remember your bravery and passion to keep people safe....even the ones that didn't know you all that well....

First, let me say to you thanks for serving/protecting our county for 8 years. You are my Hero. Death is something none of us understand. Especially when it takes someone at an early age. What we have to take comfort in knowing is God is the one in control of our lives. Whether we want to acknowledge it or not. He knew us before He placed us in our mothers womb. He has a plan and a purpose for each one of us. The Lord knows when its our time to go. That's why we have to be ready now. The Lord asks, "Are you ready?"

"Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted." Matt 5:4

I did not know Blake, but I've heard his call over the scanner. My prayers are with his family, friends and all loved ones. Thank you for allowing your son, your dad, your husband to serve and protect me and my family. I look forward to meeting Blake in heaven. God Bless all those men and women on our police forces. May the Lord be with you always.

Blake I know you saw how many people came to your service, there were people from everywhere, and it was so neat to see all of the law enforcement cars there showing their respect. I cried so hard at your service, then I laughed a few times at some of the funny statements made about you by your friends/co-workers. I just wanted you to know that Sean & I adopted a 7-month German Shephard from Kay animal hospital on Tuesday, it was brought in by a man wanting to have her put to sleep because she had parvo, her name was Angel. One of the nurses there nursed her back to health and paid for all of her medical help, she then changed her name to Blake in memory of you. We have her home here with us now and have kept her name Blake, so that your memory will live on here with us as well. I am going to have her a collar engraved with her name (Blake) and I am going to have your badge numbered engraved on there as well, just to have another little reminder of you! We all miss you dearly but I know that you are watching over us all here, and you are walking the beat in Heaven and I know you are the BEST officer they have now because you are so devoted to your job and you care so much about everyone else. My thoughts in prayers are still with Dawn, Haven, and Jewell Grace I know you are watching over them and they will always be safe. I pray that your family is doing well, I know they are still going through devastion but I know you will take care of them all. 591---you rest in peace, we miss you dearly.
There are several charity sales going on for your girls, we are all pitching in and doing the best we can to help give them something in memory of you. You were the best of the best! Wishing you the best 591!!

Blake~
Your service on Monday was beautiful. We cried, we laughed, we remembered, and we honored. You are a true Hero who is loved and who will be missed by many. It will take time for the Deputies, family and friends to recover from this but we will with the help of each other and by knowing you are up in heaven watching over us. You have two beautiful daughters who will grow up to know that their father loved them very much and that he was a Hero! We know you are in a better place and we will think of you always!

Blake, Eric and I were proud to serve as deputies with you at DCSO. You have always exemplified the ideal characteristics of a deputy sheriff from day one. You showed compassion and strength professionally and personnally. I guess when we become deputies, we all know this can happen but we never let ourselves think about it. It breaks my heart that it happened to you. Our hearts and prayers go out to DCSO because we know that it has lost one of it's best. I know that you will be missed by all because you were such a tremendous person here on earth. It is comforting to know you are patrolling the streets of heaven. I hope to swap war stories with ya when I go home. Our prayers are with Dawn and your girls. Love you Brother!!!

Blake,

Whoever does not have the stomach for this fight, let him depart.

Give him money to speed his departure
since we wish not to die in that man's company.

Whoever lives past today and comes home safely
will rouse himself every year on this day,
show his neighbors his scars, and tell embellished stories
of all their great feats of battle.

These stories he will teach his son,
and from this day until the end of the world,
we shall be remembered.
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
for whoever has shed his blood with me shall be my brother.

And those men afraid to go, will think themselves as lesser men
as they hear how we fought and died together...
(except from Henry V, Wm. Shakespere)

Thank you cousin and brother officer, now go on to God's Hunting Camp and rest easy.......

Blake,
How many times have I heard you call for 911 to copy a call, traffic stop, or check and check an officer's location? We always had the most fun with you because it was so easy to cut up and tease you!!!! We loved hearing 591---911. Blake you were and always will be a hero to your co-workers, family, and all those you protected daily. What an honor to have known you and to have been able to work with you. As the mother of a child that was molested in the past, thank you for your unselfish devotion to the children in this county and for the parents that struggle with the guilt and the anger of justice not served. We will never forget you Blake and know that you will live on in our hearts, and in the lives of all you touched. I pray that God keeps you family and your friends sheltered with his presence. I hope also that those that entered that house with you or made the decision to serve the warrant can rest easy in that a higher plan was carried out that night, no decision made by any earthly person could have changed your leaving us and that they can have the comfort of knowing that your with God now---free from any threat. With deepest respect for the life you lived and prayers for your family, stand down DCSO 591 and rest easy.

I would like to send my thoughts and prayers to Blake's family, friends and all who felt the impact of his death. I had the pleasure of knowing Blake from baseball in high school and meeting up with him again when I began working with the city of Douglasville. I also had the honor of training along side him as our S.W.A.T. team trained with the DCSO S.E.R.T. team. Blake, I have always thought a lot of you and you have my upmost respect. I will miss you, but I will never forget you. I know you will continue to protect and serve from Heaven.
