Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Haven Blake Gammill
If you only knew Blake for 1 second, you were blessed to have known him at all! He was the best dad I've ever seen in my entire life! He drove 4 hours every other Thursday to get his children for visitation and kept them as long as he could usually 4 days then drove them back home another 4 hours when their time was up! He and Dawn spoiled those children rotten! If there were a perfect family ever...it was Blake, Dawn, Haven and Jewell Grace! They were an absolutly beautiful and loving and happy family! The most dedicated officer I've met. He didn't hate his job one bit. He loved it with every breath he took! But not as much as he loved His Girls (Dawn, Haven, Jewell Grace)!! These were the 4 joys of his life that he lived for!!
As I hold Dawn's hand and catch her tears rolling down her cheek..all I can do is think that "You better hold the one you got tight because you never know when time is up!!" He will always be #1 in my mind when the word "Hero" is mentioned!!
I ask every one to pray for the Gammill's! the pain has just begun! As most of us will go on with our lives, they have to start over!! Especially Dawn!! She's my best friend and I would do anything for her but this is something that I'll never be able to help her fix! I hope that Blake's death has opened everyone's eyes to see that that tomorrow is not guarnteed!!
I'll love you always Blake!
I'm here for you always Dawn and I love you very much!
And Girls I'm here for you and always remember Daddy loved you and is always watching over you and he left behind for you an angel and her name is .. Dawn Dawn!!
Love.....Amanda

Blake, sorry I didn't drop by sooner to say happy birthday. The other night, I was at my mom's house, going through school yearbooks. I found our 6th grade pictures from Turner Middle School. I almost forgot what you looked like with a full head of hair. At least your flattop was more than my "chromedome" as you called it. I remember talking to you on Tuesday February 22, little did I know, you would be gone 48 hours later. After I moved to Forsyth, we didn't get to see each other that much. But I will always remember stopping by the DCSO range, and it never failed, you were always there when I came in. Blake , Take care, and watch over us. Rest easy brother.

One of the last times I spoke to Blake, we talked, laughed and even complained a little about one thing or another. I was fortunate enough to have those moments, that will never be forgotten. Life is precious, take nothing for granted, for in an instant it can change.

It has been 3 weeks now, and I think about you daily. As I send my husband to work each day, I pray for his safety. I am honor to know though that you are watching over him and his brothers and sisters at the SO. Your benefit concert was so beautiful. Dawn, your girls, and parents looked so good to have gone through so much. Our family prays for them daily. I know you are watching over them, but always remember that we are too. We miss you Blake......rest in peace.

On Saturday Night, March 12, 2005, I attended a banquet for the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) in Buckhead. During the banquet, an auction was held for a deer hunt, donated in your name, with the proceeds to be given to your 2 daughters. Your deer hunting family came through for your children, not only on the hunt, but later when the hat was past for those that could not bid. I only wish you were there in person. Your lovely bride to be was there and there was not a dry eye in the house when a member of your hunting club got up to speak how you were to be married at your hunting club camp. From our hunting club (Warrior Hunting Club) and the Morrow Police Department Charlie and Delta team, you are missed brother. We will meet again.

To the family of Deputy Gammill. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Your pain and grief are shared. Losing a family member in the line of duty makes every loss after that personal. May God bless and comfort you. RIP Deputy Gammill.

Hey BLake, I'm sorry it took me so long to leave my thanks to you, but I just found a place to do it so evreyone knew you were appreciated. I didnt know you but I know those who did. It takes a lot to be and officer and I thank God that we have people like you to do that. My daddy is an officer and everyday I fear for him and pray for his protection as do I with the other officers. I feel for your wife and little girls. They and your family are in my prayers. I dont know what its like to lose a father, but I know what its like to almost. Its tough but God is great and will pull them through it. You are now with the angels, and deserve so much thanks and appreciation to be willing to lay down your life for the help and protection of others. I love you and thank you!! You are greatly missed. Deputy Gammill, I never got to meet you, but we're brothers bound by a badge. I moved into Douglas County the day after your life was needlessly taken. When I heard on the radio what had happened I couldn't help but weep. It's something that will never make any sense to anyone. You were too young to go, but I guess too brave to stay. As I type now, I do so with heavy heart. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten. My prayers are with you and yours. We all know that there's another hero in Heaven to watch over us. God bless you my brother.
