Chunk,
It has only been a few months since I last seen you. We were attending accident recon classes in Forsyth. We spent two weeks learning to "measure from a straight line." I remember all of us staying late in class and helping each other with the scale diagrams. Ricky J. called me tonite to let me know. I could not believe my ears when he told me that it was you! Before the class was over, you wanted my numbers so you could come to the coast and visit me. I was hoping that when you came, I would be able to go out with you and show you the "Coast". Well, brother I hope to one day see you up there and you can show me around! Walk the streets of Heaven now because you have did your time in hell. Ricky, Chris, Jimmy, and I will miss you. Rest now my brother and watch over us from Heaven!

As a member of public saftey and an officer's wife I would like to say thank you for the job you did. Often times we never get thanks for the risks that we take, but I would like to thank you for the sacrifice you made. My prayers go out to your daughters, surviving family, and to the Henry County Police Dept. Officer Haist you are now an angel patroling the streets of gold.

Chuck, you were a great neighbor and an even better friend. I don't think I ever talked to you when you didn't have a smile on your face and a chuckle under your breath. You had a sincere concern for everyone around you and should be a role model of what a professional officer should be. The void you leave behind will not be easily filled. Know that you will be remembered.

You know I never heard Officer Haist say a bad word about anyone. And he was there for me with a kind ear on a number of occasions. He stayed positive, kept his sense of humor and was always professional. The kind of officer you would want with you on any kind of call, a true 20. It was an honor to work with and know Officer Haist.

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premisesof all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional eyes on your earthly force.
Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgment.
Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.
You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences with the devil, that the police officer's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.
And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all the people. Amen.

"Signal 63" Officer needs help. We hear it over the radio. The adreneline starts pumping, your body begins to tighten up, the hair on the back of your neck stands up and you feel that uncontrollable twitch in your leg. A brother in blue needs you! Anyone that wears a badge and carries a gun can relate to this. Officer Haist I did not know you but we were related. That's right the thin blue line of genetics was our relation. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten. May God bless you and your family.

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Rest in Peace our brother in blue. You will be missed.
