A Hero Walks Alone
Dear Father, another sad day is gone
As a hero, is made to walk alone
On a path, where other heroes have trod
On their way, to see you my God
Take him in your arms, and say a thank you for me
I read of his warmth, I understand what people see
I hate seeing how the good, suffer for the bad
There is no explanation, for this pain so sad
I send my prayers, for his family losing this kind heart
I read what his sister wrote, dear Lord how the tears did start
You dear lady, your heart spoke a million tears
I am so sorry that your family, are now facing these fears
Although this hero has been made to walk alone
His Father in Heaven, is waiting for him by the throne
Lift your head high my brother, one day we will meet
I will thank you persoally for the honor, on that peaceful beat

I pray the best for the family and friends. May God comfort you.

To the family,
I am sorry about your loss, but Wayne is now in a better place so now you do not have to worry about him. The bible states "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." Ashley I pray that God gives you and the family the strength you need to make it through each day. May God bless you and keep you.

Wayne we got to work together for just a short time. But you made it memorable. From busting on my mouth, to me pulling up to you and your FTO on the side of the road on your last night with him. (Sorry you just had to be there)
When ever I pulled up on your scene you always had the smile on your face. Going down your street and seeing your new unit sitting out front and knowing how proud you were to have finally got on with the S.O. Plus how proud you made your wife by that also.
When I saw it was you in the CAD notes time stopped for me. You will be missed, someone of your caliber can not be replaced. I feel honored to have got to know you 1426

I had the opportunity to have met Wayne while attending an advanced law enforcement class. To see his eagerness to learn and try to excel above the rest of the class motivated me to attempt to compete at his level. I have two seperate feelings at this time. One is of anger and the other of sadness. Being a former United States Marine and fellow law enforcement officer, I am angry knowing that a brother was taken away from us, in such the manner in which this occurred. Mostly I am saddened that Wayne's family has lost a great father, husband, son, brother, and uncle. However, I do know his family has great memories to reflect on. As a father myself, I know what Wayne will miss the most, but remember Amber, Ryan, Jamie, and Jordan your father will be with you every second of everyday. Ashley, children, and the rest of Wayne's family, I can promise you this, cowardly criminals will not take over our society, we will make the ultimate sacrifice, as Wayne did, to keep your community safe. My family and I offer our condolences to the Koester family. May God bless you. To Deputy Sheriff Wayne Koester (Lake County 1426), Rest In Peace brother, we have the watch.
