Anthony, was a fine young man to work with his heart was to make our community a better place to live and work. He was faithful to his wife and son and tried to make sure his work allowed time to involve them as a family. Anthony will be truely missed.
We as a town proclaimed Febuary 4th as Anthony Lucas day as a memorial to him and his service to the Town Of French Camp. Our prayers will be with all Officers and their families as they do the work set before them. Thanks

I knew Anthony when we took classes together at Mississippi State and when I was a patrolman for the Starkville, MS Police Department. Anthony was a good man and no doubt a great husband and father. Anthony is truly a hero and will never be forgotten. My deepest sympathy goes out to the Lucas family.

I am so sorry that this has happened, another police officer killed in the line of duty - guns, violence - Darn!! The ache and pain you are going through along with all of the questions - the why's - the anger you feel - all of the emotions - they are real.
My thoughts and prayers go out to you, Anthony's wife and young son, his Mom and Dad, his extended family , police family and friends - that God will give you strength to go through each day - knowing that you were all blessed by Anthony having touched your lives each in a special way - those memories will help to sustain you. With love a mother of slain police officer in 1998

TO: The family; loved ones; friends and department members: A POLICE OFFICER’S PRAYER:--- O, gentle Lord ! Keep the day/night watch with me. As I begin my tour of duty, I ask your protection from all mental, physical and spiritual harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing your work, endeavoring to keep peace among your people. Help me to be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone. May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties. Let me respond to all calls with haste realizing that so many are dependent upon me for life and safety. Support me with your consoling power when I am tempted to think no one really cares and that I am taken for granted. Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are grateful for my presence. Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and my fellow officers, and that I may back them up effectively when called upon for assistance. Lord, I ask that I may return safely, after my tour of duty, to my loved ones and those who love me. I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer; and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that you have promised to those who serve you well. AMEN. *** REST IN PEACE *** Sent to you by the father of Detective J.D.Koeppen, Raleigh North Carolina; Trooper D.C.Koeppen, New Jersey State Police and Patrolman A.M.Koeppen, Wilmington North Carolina.

I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and fellow officers of Chief Anthony Lucas. Take comfort in the fact that he died a hero and is sitting next to God, watching over all of us now. Also, take comfort in the fact that the law enforcement family has all of you in their prayers and will make sure that you are well taken care of. I am copying a poem from the memorial page of a Columbus, Ohio police officer who was also killed in the line of duty, his name is Bryan Hurst EOW 01/06/2005. We were friends and attended the academy together, I miss him every day.
"A Part of America Died"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.
The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
and a part of America died.

Our Prayers are with you during this terrible time. Chief Lucas gave all for something he believed in, something that he obviously loved. I never had the honor of knowing him but my heart is grieved none the less. To all of his friends and family may you find comfort in the words of our Lord in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. God bless you!
