I know that this isn't the easiest time in the world for the family and the challenges that they face will test their faith and yet, I see the spirit of God shining through in Anthony. Anthony would want each of you to keep putting one foot in front of the other everyday. Anthony was an inspiration and a blessing to everyone who knew him. I prayed and asked God to give the family comfort and strength.

I went to the police academy with Anthony. He was in my office the day he died for a meeting. It is amazing what life can't tell you. Anthony and I were coworkers who knew each other. We were not close. But there is something that tugs at your heart when a tragedy of this magnitude hits so close to home. He was a fellow academy classmember and coworker who received the same training as me but that night it couldn't help him. A family was awaiting his return as they did each night but it never came. I grieve for Anthony and the things he will never enjoy but I praise God for loving and keeping him. I especially grieve for Penny and thier son. There was so much lost for each of them in Anthony's death. I thank God that He will give them and his other family, friends, and coworkers the strength to get through this. I thank God that we will all unite as Brothers and Sisters in his kingdom one day. See you later, Anthony.

I met Anthony while I was attending Mississippi University for Women. He was always full of laughter and warmth. I was deepley saddened to hear of his passing. The law enforcement community lost a fine officer the day Anthony died. My prayers to Penny, Kyle, Wendell, Brenda and Amy and the rest of his family and friends. May God's love and mercy surround you.

Each day we lace up those tall black boots, strap on that heavy uncomfortable belt, kiss our wives and kids and mumble a prayer under our breath that we just make it home again to see the mess they have made. Unfortunately we don't have a 9 to 5 that we can count on or steady job that we repeat day in and day out all we can count is the Law Enforcement Brothers that share the same convictions we hold fast to. Anthony and I will never have to chance to meet, to drink coffee together, to share stories with one another, to work together but he will Forever be MY BROTHER. And I will keep on fighting the fight that took my brother out. We cannot bring Anthony back but maybe just maybe we can stop it from happening to anyone else. To the family of Anthony Lucas and all Law Enforcement we have lost a great man but his memory will keep on lacing up those boots, strapping on that belt and doing what God sent us to the world to do protect and serve our fellow man.

Oktibbeha County Sheriffs Department

Why does the sun rise and give light,
Only to set again too soon?
Why do stars twinkle so bright,
Only to pass away with the moon?
Why does a rainbow appear with colors to show,
Only to fade for no apparent reason?
Why does a flower take so long to grow,
Only to wilt during winter season?
Why does snow fall so mysteriously and lay,
Only to change and then melt?
Why do people enter our lives along the way,
Only to leave us when they knew how we felt?
I guess no one will really know why, but God above.
But we should be happy for all those creations
We had some time to know and love.

If you are able, save for them a place inside of you and save one backward glance when you are leaving for the places they can no longer go, Be not ashamed to say you loved them, though you may or may not have always, Take what they have left and what they have taught you with their dying and keep it with your own, And in time when men decide and feel safe to call the streets insane, take one moment to embrace those gentle heroes you left behind. You will not be forgotten..We will see you in Elysium...
