Reflections for Sergeant Howard King Stevenson
I feel the loss of Sgt. Stevenson, although we never met. It was mentioned he is a hero, and I agree completely. We are the first line when the public is in danger. Sgt. Stevenson was as brave as any...
I hope Officer Sam Ryno makes a full recovery, in every way. Sam acted bravely too, I want him to know that.

The few stand to protect the many and our American Way of Life. They do not do it for glory or recognition, they do it because it is the right thing to do.
Centurian, you stood the line and did your duty. Now we honor you, it is the right thing to do.
Sir, I salute you, your comrades in the Ceres PD and all law enforcement officers across this great land we call American. You sacrifice will always be honored.

You hear people say that they would like to have a job like we do. How they would like to get paid to just ride around in a car all day. People do not realize the risk that we take every day when we suit up and hit the Highways and Streets. Then you stop that one person and write them a ticket and you are the bad cop that nobody likes. An Officer takes all of these risk and may never get a reward or even a thank you. For all of those who are reading this make an Officers day and walk up to him and tell him thanks for all he is doing. I can assure you that will be worth more than any award that he could ever receive. And to the Stevenson family. I know that you are in great pain, but at the same time you should be proud of what Howard did during his time on earth. He is a true Hero to all of us.
May God Bless you and your family.
Rest In Peace Sergeant Howard Stevenson.

As part of the huge extended law enforcement family we all feel the pain this loss has and will cause you, the Stevenson family. From my family to yours we send a warm hug and prayers to help get you through this time that none of us in this great extended family pray we ever have to endure. Just know that no matter how far away you are, there is always someone ready to hold your hand for support. I for one am just a few towns away. Please never forget that you are not alone. Thank God the suspect didn't get away and was dealt with accordingly.

May God bless Sergeant Stevenson's family. Know that all of your Brothers in Blue stand with you at this time of loss. We never fully understand why God allows such tragic events to happen, but we all continue on our individual journey, as Sarge did. With complete honor and duty. Again, God be with you. You are in our prayers.
Rest in peace, Sarge. We got it down here, just help us from above when you can.

I cruised the freeways, far and near,
and patrolled the highways long.
I assisted those in need of help,
and tried to right the wrongs.
I knew my job put me at risk,
thus faith came into call;
I never drove without the Lord.
He was with me through it all.
I didn't want to leave you,
but God said that I must go.
So, I held your love inside me,
and let my spirit flow.
Tell my family, and my friends,
that every thing's okay;
Up here a deputy uses wings,
to cruise the Great Highway.
Teach my children to be proud,
and to not live life in fear.
Tell them Daddy's still on watch,
and that I am always near.
And you, dear wife, remember, please
that true love never dies.
What lives today, within the heart,
lives on in Paradise.

May the family, the community and fellow officers of Sgt. Stevenson be comforted by knowing that he moved toward the sound of the gunfire and towards a wounded friend. A man of great character and convictions.

“When God made Peace Officers….”
When the lord was creating Peace Officers, he was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared and said, “You’re doing a lot of fiddling around on this one.”
And the Lord said, Have you read the spec on this order? A Peace Officer has to be able to run five miles through alleys in the dark, scale walls, enter homes the health inspector wouldn’t touch, and not wrinkle their uniform.
They have to be able to sit in an undercover car all day on a stakeout, cover a homicide scene that night, canvass the neighborhood for witnesses, and testify in court the next day.
They have to be in top physical condition at all times, running on black coffee and half- eaten meals. And they have to have six pairs of hands.
The angel shook her head slowly and said, “Six pairs of hands….No Way.”
“It’s not the hands that are causing me the problems,” said the Lord, “It’s the three pairs of eyes an officer has to have.”
That’s on the standard model? asked the angel.
The Lord nodded. One pair that sees through a bulge in a pocket before he asks, “May I see what’s in there sir?” (When they already know and wishes they had taken that accounting job.) Another pair here in the side of their head for their partners’ safety. And another pair of eyes here in front that can look reassuringly at a bleeding victim and say, “ You’ll be alright ma’am, when they know it isn’t so.”
“Lord,” said the angel, touching his sleeve,” rest and work tomorrow.”
“I can’t,” said the Lord, “I already have a model that can talk a 250 pound drunk into a patrol car without incident and feed a family of five on civil service paycheck.”
The angel circled the model of the Peace Officer very slowly, “Can it think?” she asked.
“You bet,” said the Lord, “It can tell you elements of a hundred crimes, recite Miranda warnings in it’s sleep; detain, investigate, search, and arrest a gang member on the street in less time than it takes five judges to debate the legality of the stop…and still it keeps it’s sense of humor.
This officer also has phenomenal personal control. They can deal with crime scenes painted in HELL, coax a confession from a child abuser, comfort a murder victim’s family’ and then read in the daily paper how Law Enforcement isn’t sensitive to the rights of criminal suspects.
Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek of the Peace Officer. “There’s a leak,” she pronounced. “I told you that you were trying to put too much into this model.”
“That’s not a leak,” said the Lord, “It’s a tear.”
“What’s the tear for?” asked the angel.
“It’s for bottled-up emotions, for fallen comrades, for commitment to that funny piece of cloth called the American flag, and for justice.”
“You’re a genius,” said the angel.
The Lord looked sober. “I didn’t put it there,” he said.
