Reflections for Sergeant Howard King Stevenson
I was saddened to hear of Sgt Stevenson's death so soon after we lost Bryan Hurst. My sorrow turned to embarrassment and anger when I heard the drug using criminal who committed this murder was a Marine. I was satisfied to hear that the Marine Corps refused to bury him with military honors. Bryan Hurst, who exemplified the Marine values of honor, courage, and commitment, was buried with both Police and Marine honors. The pipe band played the Marines' hymn as he was carried to his final resting place. Marines stood guard over him, served in the color guard, and prior Marines served as some of his pall bearers.
Sgt Howard Stevenson will be remembered as a hero.

My most humble thanks for your service and ultimate sacrifice!
I found myself in a similar situation a few years ago, and for some reason, that gunman's rifle rounds missed me....I wish I could've been there for you on that fateful day. I would've taken the guy out for you, or fallen beside you while trying...
My deepest thoughts go to your family, friends, and co-workers during this difficult time. I hope your comrade is recovering as well.

We only knew him by a “wave and a smile” as he protected our streets for many years. But we still feel this TRAGIC loss and our hearts are deeply saddened. We pray that God will continue to bring peace and strength to Kathy and the children during their time of grief.
And may God bless you eternally, Sergeant Stevenson. Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice. You will never be forgotten.

My father served on the police force with Howie. I have a dear attachment to many of the Ceres Police Officers, and this loss is truly heartbreaking. In these past few days there has been such an outpouring of love from the community, it is easy to see what a distinguished and fine gentlemen Howie was. I know he will live in the hearts of many as one of our fallen heroes and an outstanding individual. My family and I wish all the best for the Stevenson family. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers. Rest peacefully Howie. Know that you will be forever remembered and that your sacrifice will always be admired. Thank you.
