Reflections for Master Police Officer Peter J. Lavery
rest easy you will never be forgotten.
' Death is nothing at all..I have only slipped away into the next room..I am I and you are you..whatever we were to each other that we are still. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you used to. Put no difference into your tone; wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Pray, smile, think of me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.Let it be spoken without effect , without the ghost of a shadow on it . Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; There is absolutely unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligble accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you,
for an interval, somewhere very near just around the corner .. All is well '

While I didn't know MPO Lavery personally, I know many fine officers in Berlin and Newington like him; officers that go to work every day knowing that it may be there last, but they love what they do and could think of no more honorable way to sacrifice themselves, than in the line-of-duty.
Thank you to all the officers/troopers who tried to save MPO Lavery. You are heros too.
I'm sure heaven has a kind, veteran officer patrolling its streets tonight.
Stay safe,

God Bless You Officer Peter Lavery, my heart goes out to you and your family.
I saw you just a few months back and you told me to call you anytime. You were so sincere and so good.I asked you what had happened to your brother Gerald, whom I had given a guardian angel to, and you smiled and said you were the last one left on the force. I now ask myself why I didn't get a guardian angel for you too.You were a great man and officer! We will mourn for you.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.
Tonight, December 31, 2004 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Patrolman Peter Lavery who died in the line of duty just hours ago.
When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.
Patrolman Lavery's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

TO: The family; loved ones; friends and department members: A POLICE OFFICER’S PRAYER:--- O, gentle Lord ! Keep the day/night watch with me. As I begin my tour of duty, I ask your protection from all mental, physical and spiritual harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing your work, endeavoring to keep peace among your people. Help me to be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone. May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties. Let me respond to all calls with haste realizing that so many are dependent upon me for life and safety. Support me with your consoling power when I am tempted to think no one really cares and that I am taken for granted. Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are grateful for my presence. Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and my fellow officers, and that I may back them up effectively when called upon for assistance. Lord, I ask that I may return safely, after my tour of duty, to my loved ones and those who love me. I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer; and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that you have promised to those who serve you well. AMEN. *** REST IN PEACE *** Sent to you by the father of Detective J.D.Koeppen, Raleigh North Carolina; Trooper D.C.Koeppen, New Jersey State Police and Patrolman A.M.Koeppen, Wilmington North Carolina.

May the Lord bless you and keep you. I pray for your family and friends who will have to contend with the loss of a hero. It will be little solice, but a woman is alive today because of you. If you read Ralph Waldo Emerson, you are the definition of being a success, because one person breathed easier because were alive. God Bless and Rest easy brother. You will be missed next roll call.
