Your sacrifice was such a tragic one. It so closely resembles the Shannon Street incident in Memphis, TN that took place several years ago whereas two officers were taken hostage and one killed. I will pray for your family and please know your tour of duty will be justly rewarded when St. Michael adds you to the Protectors of Heaven and Earth.

WE ARE SO SORRY TO HEAR OF YOUR LOSS. WE KNOW HOW PAINFUL THIS CAN BE. WE LOST OUR ONLY CHILD OFFICER SHANE MILLER IN THE LINE OF DUTY ( HIGH PURSUIT CHASE) MAY 15 OF THIS YEAR. HE HAD ONLY WORKED 6 HOURS AS AN OFFICER. NOBODY CAN KNOW THE PAIN UNLESS THEY HAVE BEEN THERE. I WOULD NEVER WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE. WHY CAN'T PEOPLE JUST BE GOOD, LIFE IS SO MUCH EASIER THAT WAY. WHEN YOUN CRY WE CRY WITH YOU, WHEN YOUN HURT WE HURT WITH YOU. ALWAYS TRUST IN GOD TO HELP YOU. IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR HIM ANSWERING OUR PRAYERS WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO EVEN GET UP OUT OF BED. THIS HAS BEEN THE MOST AWFUL THING WE HAVE EVER GONE THROUGH. YOU THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL ALWAYS BE IN OUR PRAYERS.
HAVING TO SUFFER A LOSS LIKE THIS IS JUST NOT RIGHT.
GOD BE WITH YOU!!!!!!!

On the first day of this new year, my heart is heavy with the news of the tragic and senseless death of Officer Peter Lavery. His sacrifice in the last days of 2004 underscores the life and death struggle that those in his profession face on a daily basis. While the rest of the world prepared to celebrate the New Year, Officer Lavery gave his life in a cold, dark basement at the hands of a madman. His contributions will never be forgotten, and his legacy of dedication and bravery will live on in the hearts of his peers for all time. Godspeed.
