11 years... I happened to mention you in passing the other day and it was so weird. Typically I don't like to talk about you because it still hurts as if it happened yesterday. I thought time was supposed to heal all wounds, but it doesn't. I still remember so much of that night and so much of the days that followed. Losing you never got easier. And the years have not been kind, to say the least. Just know that you are remembered and missed every single day. Rest easy my friend.

Chris, I drive by your place of demise a lot and I can't stop thinking about you. What if things were different? What if you didn't go in to cover that shift? You will always be in my heart!

Thinking of you today, as I saw a memorial poster at the Jackson County Jail. I work for a lawyer now. Guess you had something to do with that....lol. You taught me so much as a Police Explorer...even made me Captain! I'll never forget the group's camping trip. We all miss you so much!! You were such a kind man to us kids of 1990-1994. We were much better for having you in our lives. RIP and I'll see you again one day. 10-4?

Chris: I never forget the anniversary of your death... it comes in a week and I was thinking of you earlier due to the senseless deaths of the NYC police officers this past week... you are gone, but never forgotten... Kristi

I don't know how to describe my feelings right now. I did a name search a few days ago, wondering what ever happened to Chris. I attended the Riverside Sheriff's Academy with him (82nd Basic class) and even double dated with him after our graduation. I found his entry in the ODMP and had to do some checking to be sure this was the same Chris Ruse I knew. We had lost touch over the years, since he left RSO, 30+ years ago. I can't believe he's gone. What I can believe is he went out doing the job, trying to make this world a safer place.

May we always honor and remember the sacrifice this brave hero chose to make. And may God continue to hold his 'surviving' wife, children, and family in His merciful and loving hands. Your dedicated service to the Pendergrass Police Dept., the State of Georgia, and to our nation as a United States Marine will forever more serve as a role model for those who follow in your footsteps. I thank you for your service and sacrifice. My sincerest sympathy goes out to your family. They will never "get over" your loss and their hearts will always contain a void where your love once filled. May God grant them purpose of life and a peace that only He can give, with the understanding that His plan is always perfect.

Dear Chris,
Eight years ago, you were taken from your family, friends, co-workers, community and church family - taken too early. I think about that a lot having lost my daughter 20 months ago. The "taken too early part." We all know that you are with our Father in Heaven and experience a peace and joy that we cannot comprehend. It is those of us that love and are left behind to mourn our beloveds who have to find ways to deal with our grief, our anger, our loneliness, our guilt, our emptiness...
Our merciful Father has ways to help us deal with such terrible loss. He is helping me deal with crisis after crisis after crisis, enough to make many come to their knees, and still I stand. I pray those who mourn you, taken too early, have felt our Father's presence and have been comforted. If not, then I will pray that they will.
Thank you again, Chris, for all your service. Most especially, I am grateful for your dedication to young people.
Peace to your family today and always,
A mother in San Antonio

You were a great DARE teacher to me as well as many others when I was young. I always looked up to you and remember being so impressed every time I saw you weather it was in the classroom at County Line Elementary School where you made everyone laugh including the teachers as well just seeing you on the street working. I have so many memories though I only slightly knew you, that is the impact you had on so many like me. You were a man who many looked up to and you were a great influence and role model for me. I will never forget you and am proud to have known you as much as I did. I am now in Law Enforcement myself and visit your page quite often and think of the memories. Thank you for your sacrifice and for all of the hearts you touched while you were here. May God bless your family.

Thinking of your family today and hoping time has dulled the sharp edge of loss, and that the realization of your joy residing in the glory and peace of the heavens will have gently moved them forward along life's journey. Thank you again, Chris, for your service in the military, your service in law enforcement, and your volunteer efforts in DARE. God bless your loved ones.

Chris,
You were the first officer I lost as a dispatcher. More than that you were my friend. Today as we have lost another officer it's you that my thoughts come back to. I hope you, Todd and Gary look down on all those in Jackson County on the days ahead and lend them your amazing strength. We love and miss you!

Chris,
I was one of the students you taught D.A.R.E to, and through all the peer pressure your lesson's and the time you spent with us gave me the courage to always say no. I'm 23 now with a kid my own who I hope find's a officer like you to help keep her clean.
Thank you Chris you made difference and you will be missed and remembered!

Chris,
I think about you offten. It seems like it was yesterday when I got that phone call from an off duty dispatcher saying that a Pendergrass cop was just shot. Only a few of us worked there at that time and I wasnt sure who was working that night. Its crazy how such a small department has had so many officers move on to heaven. I enjoyed working with you , Richard and Frank. Im sure the three of you have plenty to talk about up there. I met your sister just a few weeks ago at the Commerce Christmas Parade. She is very proud to call you her brother.

Dear Chris,
I didn't know you before 29 Dec 2004, but you and your family became a part of my heart since that day, connected to my life forevermore. I think of you all often, especially on this day. Thank you for your service, both Marine and Police, community and church. I trust you are in a place of great joy and hope your wife and children find comfort in knowing that. Nothing can replace you in their lives. Because families are forever, you know you will be together again.
RIP, Chris.
