Reflections for Policeman Parley L. Bennett
I happened to be on duty as a civilian RTO dispatcher at LAPD Communications Division when a call came in about a man in the street on Western Ave, obviously drunk or otherwise having a problem.
The responding officers quickly detected a serious problem and called downtown detectives. They instructed that he be checked at Downtown Hospital and the detectives arrested him, which started his eventual arrest and taken to prison, where he died within about 4 years later

Interesting time-line of events with the killer getting arrested years later after confessing while he was detained. I'm hoping the Bennett family can find peace in knowing your family is never forgotten for Parley's service and sacrifice.

Parley's 2 brothers (my uncle & my grandfather) moved from Idaho to Los Angeles to become LAPD officers after his murder (to avenge the crime). Only my uncle made it onto the force. Neither of them lived to see the killer brought to justice. My grandfather died in Dec 1963 of natural causes. My uncle took his own life (with his service weapon) just 2 years prior to the killer's arrest (1969). May they all rest in peace now.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 85th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never dimishes respect, and your memory will always be honored and revered. .I hope some of your family members became aware that your murderer was apprehended 44 years later.
Rest In Peace
