Upon the markers of their graves
Our heroes etched in names we save
For all the life they gave with pride
To keep the peace within life's stride

To honor serve and do their best
To keep us safe through any quest
They gave up what was theirs to share
Their spirits shall be always near

No fear within the hearts and minds
To keep us safe within our times
The glory that is ours to see
Those special hearts of bravery

They have walked where no man dare
Their lives in danger with no care
For they have given all they could
For their courage we have stood

In awe of every one who gave
His life for others who they saved
So we will know their contribution
Their firm resolve and resolution

For those they left with hearts so broken
In every whispered word that's spoken
We bow our heads in confirmation
In every word life's revelation

Those who stand within their shoes
Will follow courage as they choose
And give to all the best they had
They carry on with spirits glad

We will know that they walked through
With colors bright and hearts so true
No Island stands alone they say
For heroes they are born this way

Protecting those with loyalty
A glimpse of so much royalty
Within the years of courage bound
These officers have earned their crown

Upon the earth we shall remember
The special goals and all their thunder
That proves a hero came our way
Who left their hearts on earth to stay.

Deeply sorrowful, I leave another reflection about a brave soldier killed by a cowardly enemy. I hope the community will show appreciation for the sacrifice Deputy Hedman has made, and outrage for this violent attack. May the memory of your service, heroism and sacrifice remain forever. May God bless you, your family and fellow officers in the Otero County Sheriff's Department.

A solemn 'thank you' to you, a man who dedicated his life to public service. Sacrifices by my brothers of the badge will never be forgotten. My deepest thoughts go out to your friends, family, and co-workers during this difficult time. Although it may not seem like justice to some, I for one am glad that your killer got his. We'll never know what brings "people" to commit such acts....

As the words at Ecclessiates 9:11 so clearly state " time and unforeseen occurance befall us all." Indeed this is an unforseen tradgedy for all of us at the as the gravity of Bob's passing sinks in. It seems almost ironic now that myself and a fellow dispatcher were talking just a few days previous to Bob's unfortunate passing about how much we wanted things to stay the way they are. How, even though we're both relatively new to law enforcement, things were starting to feel familiar and more comfortable to us. She even spoke of how she could tell each of our deputies on the radio before they said a single word, just by the way they breathed into the microphone.
Well, unfortunalely things do change and sometimes not for the better. But we can rest assured that Bob journey through this world was not an inconsequential one and his passing,by no means in vain. He touched each and every one of us in a special way and forever changed our lives with his unique perception of the world and caring spirit. While his death was a trajic one, he will always live on in my memory as the vibrant human being who never left dispatch without giving each of us a hug and a loving word of departure.
Robert Hedman you will be missed.

Thank you for your unselfish service to the citizens of the great state of New Mexico. In a rural area such as ours, it is unfortunate that we are so far and few between. I wish this situation would have turned out differently, but in the profession we chose, it seems at times that the odds are overwhelmingly against us. May God bless you and your family... I know you are safe in sound in His presence.
