Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Robert Walter Hedman

TO: The family; loved ones; friends and department members: A POLICE OFFICER’S PRAYER:--- O, gentle Lord ! Keep the day/night watch with me. As I begin my tour of duty, I ask your protection from all mental, physical and spiritual harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing your work, endeavoring to keep peace among your people. Help me to be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone. May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties. Let me respond to all calls with haste realizing that so many are dependent upon me for life and safety. Support me with your consoling power when I am tempted to think no one really cares and that I am taken for granted. Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are grateful for my presence. Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and my fellow officers, and that I may back them up effectively when called upon for assistance. Lord, I ask that I may return safely, after my tour of duty, to my loved ones and those who love me. I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer; and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that you have promised to those who serve you well. AMEN. *** REST IN PEACE *** Sent to you by the father of Detective J.D.Koeppen, Raleigh North Carolina; Trooper D.C.Koeppen, New Jersey State Police and Patrolman A.M.Koeppen, Wilmington North Carolina

My prayers go out to the department and those who served with Deputy Hedman. Why does something so senseless happen to good people who are out there trying to protect us? Now he walks the streets of heaven, protecting us from above. I know it's no comfort, we want him back here with us. Deputy, watch out for your brothers and sisters who proudly put on their badges, ride with them and keep them safe.

A PART OF AMERICA DIED

Somebody killed a policeman today, and
A part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With his counsel demanding his rights,
While a widowed Mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he’d gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won’t fly at half-mast,
To his name, they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today.
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie’s side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of this fallen officer, even though I never knew him. I was born and raised in Otero county, Alamogordo New Mexico, and I know how it feels to lose a fellow officer . Police officer LaToya Johnson was my dear friend and we lost her last August as she fell victim to gunshot wounds. I pray for this deputy and his family.

I come to this site every day and hope there are no new names added but I found another warrior has been brought home on his shield from battle. Deputy Hedman, you are a true hero and my prayers go out to your family and close friends during this very trying time. I also hope your department comes to the aid of your family and supports them in every way they can. I will end with this very short verse I came across, "Always in our hearts, always in our words, forever young, forever blue. Our Guardian Angel." Watch over all the others in the Blue Family and your own family.

Our heartfelt prayers and sympathy go out to the family and co-workers of Deputy Hedman.

Merry Christmas From Heaven

I still hear the songs
I still see the lights
I still feel your love
on a cold wintry nights

I still share your hopes
and all of your cares
I"ll even remind you
to please say your prayers

I just want to tell you
you still make me proud
You stand head and shoulders
above all the crowd

Keep trying each moment
to stay in His grace
I came here before you
to help set your place

You don"t have to be
perfect all of the time
He forgives you the slip
If you continue the climb

To my family and friends
please be thankful today
I"m still close beside you
in a new special way

I love you all dearly
now don"t shed a tear
cause I"m spending my
Christmas with Jesus this year
