It feels like yesterday that we were in the acadmey together and hard to imagine what has happened. When I heard the news I did not know what to think. You will be remembered for what a great officer and a wonderful person that you were.

To the family of Officer Mark Vance and Officers of the Bristol Tennessee Police Department:
Our prayers are that God will comfort you in your time of sorrow and need. We too have been through the grief of loosing a fellow officer in recent years and we share your grief and your loss. In time you will be able to smile instead of crying when Mark's name is mentioned or when you think of him. Oh, you'll think of him ever so often and you should. Like our friend "Bubba", you'll remember all the fun things you did together, the funny things he said, and all the good times you had. I pray that this time will come soon for all of you.

I remember Mr. Bass, a retired FBI Agent that was one of my instructors at the Police Academy at Donaldson in Nashville back in 1978. He would shed tears with every graduation. He knew that at least one of his officers from every graduating class would loose their life in the line of duty. And so is it with Officer Mark Vance. Again, May God Be With You Mark, Your Family, and The Bristol Tennessee Police Department, and I Pray that God follow all of us through the next door.

My heart breaks for your family & friends for I know the pain they are feeling. I pray that the Lord will wrap his loving arms around them and help them through this tragedy one day at a time. Every time I see that another officer is killed, I feel a twinge inside because not only was the officer hurt but the family will hurt forever. God bless you all.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to your family (departmental family included) who we are sure will miss you dearly.

You served your time and your community with integrity and pride and we are sure they will miss you too.

Having lost a "brother" this year we can honestly say that we understand the pain that your family feels right now and we hope that someday soon they will be able to talk about you and laugh when they tell the wonderful stories, we know they have, to others so they can share the special part of your life that they hold dear.

Our wish when we put on the uniform is to be able to go home at the end of our shift, safely, to the ones we love. You can do that now, you can rest safely in God's hands and you can help God watch over the ones you love and keep them safe as you did while you were here on this earth.

God bless you brother, God speed!
