I graduated from the academy with Amy in June, and it tears me apart knowing she was taken away from all of us. We have already been through so much together, and too loose another sister is hard to bear. Yet, I take comfort in knowing that God is holding her tight, and is watching over her family in their time of need. To her children rest easy knowing your mother was doing what she loved to do, and in the process protecting all of us from harm. I feel great appreciation that I was afforded the opportunity to meet and know Amy, and though I knew her only for a small amount of time, I feel truely blessed, and her spirt will live on inside all of us that walk the streets she was dedicated to protecting. God Bless you Amy and till we see you again, "I am my sisters keeper!"

May Amy rest in peace. May her family be lifted upon by God. May her fellow officers and friends be comforted by God as well, for he will not give us more than we can bear, nor something he can not see us thru. I felt the same loss as you less than a year ago. Stay close to each other. My prayers are with you all.

Dear Austin Police Department,
With the loss of Officer Donovan and the trauma and grief her partner, family and loved ones are dealing with, we want to put our arms around all of you and bow our heads in prayer. As I quietly talk to God about this terrible tragedy I ask that I can hear Officer Donovan whisper the following:
"I am home in heaven, dear ones,
Oh, so happy and bright.
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting Light.
All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed,
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.
Did you wonder I so calmly Trod
The valley of the shade?
Oh! but Jesus' love illumined
Every dark and fearful glade.
And He came Himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread,
And with Jesus' arm to lean on,
Could I have one doubt or dread?
Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still,
Try to look beyond earth's shadows,
Pray to trust our Father's will.
There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand,
Do it now while life remaineth,
You shall rest in Jesus' land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home,
Oh the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come.

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"
