The loss of the barricaded suspect is of no consequence. He made his bed and was blown up in it. The loss of five law enforcement officers and one innocent civilian because of that animal's actions is tragic and infuriating. Constable Koch, you are a hero. You have earned your place in Heaven and this 117th anniversary of that horrific event is cause for reflection and mourning.
God Bless and may you forever Rest in Peace, Brother

July 19, 1898 was a very sad and tragic day for Alameda County. To lose so many good men in one incident at the hands of nobody is unthinkable. Yet things like this continue to happen and even worse, probably always will.
Men like Constable Koch, though gone now 116 years will never be forgotten in part thanks to this wonderful website. This incident may be just a piece of history to some, but it's the loss of an ancestor to others.
Constable Koch, you remain a hero. May God Bless you and may you forever Rest in Peace, Brother.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 112th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
When you were serving, I am sure that the agency was much smaller than it is
now. The multiple losses must have been devastating to your family, agency, and community.
Rest In Peace
