Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Brandy Lyn Winfield

My sister was friends in highschool with Brandy's mother and then was one of his elementary school teachers later on. I never knew Mr. Winfield myself. Evvery time I drive town 423 and see the Brandy Winfield Memorial highway sign and the memorial placed on the site of his murderer, my heart breaks. Pray for Brandy and all of the rest.

I have a story to tell about him. You know I have never really enjoyed the police but I was walking from Marion to Waldo and it was late at night and I was at the halfway point in my walk and next thing I know I am seeing the red and blues again. He wasn't stopping me to harass me he was there to help! First time in a long time an officer just wanted to help because he was concerned about my safety. I was sitting in the back of his car and he was checking my credentials before we could go to my destination when he got a call saying that he was needed at a DV in progress when he apologized and said he wasn't able to take me but if I was still walking when he was through with the call he would give me a ride. Never seen him again until a month later when I heard on the news that he had been killed. My first thought was why do jerks always kill the good ones? Thank you for showing me the other side of the badge. Thanks to you.

Today he would have been 38, instead he is forever 29, and forever in my heart.

All of my dreams seem to fall by the side
Like a discarded thought
Or the days fading light
But I know that if I could just
See you tonight
Forever

At times we may fall
Like we all tend to do
But I'll reach out and find
That I've run into you
your strength is the power
That carried me through
Forever

Your kindess for weakness
I never mistook
I worried you often
Yet you understood
That life is so fleeting
Those troubles won't last
Forever

Inspired me truly
You did from the start
To not be afraid
And to follow my heart
There's a piece of you with me
They can't tear apart
Forever

In times we may fall
like we all tend to do
your strength is the power
that carried me through forever

Forever I'll find you, forever we'll be
Forever your power and strength stays with me.

You are not forgotten. We still have your ribbon on the back of our car. Our children know about you, even though they only met you once. You are a reminder that we must always tell our loved ones how we feel. Life is short. I only hope that I can impact half the people that you did in your life. We will see you again.

Hi. I just wanted to say hi and that I was thinking of you and Sarah and the kids. I went to Disney on Ice this past weekend in Columbus. We were at a traffic light at the corner of Neil Avenue and the suv in front of us had a magnet ribbon with your name on it. It made me smile to think that people still remember!!!!! You gave all and for that I say thank you!

Rest easy Brandy until your family and friends can get up there with you.
