Reflections for Trooper Darryl Louis Haywood, Sr.
Another year has pass and I still think about that day. I remain focus and with these new Chargers and new laws we are making progress in the sportbike epidemnic war. May you and God protect your family and ours through our personal battles.

I haven't left a message since 2004. Trooper Haywood served proudly and was deeply loved and respected by those who knew him. It is a tragedy to lose him. We never know when our lives on this earth will end, but we can make a reservation in Heaven now and assure us a place when God calls us to Himself. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6) and He PAID the price for our sins on the Cross so we don't have to pay the penalty for our sins. Yipee! If we accept His payment by faith we can have salvation and spend eternity with Him in Heaven. It is not something we must earn, it is a gift. The most precious one we can ever receive. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith_and this not from yourselves, it is the GIFT of God_not by good deeds, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2: 8,9. For without faith, it is impossible to please God. And our faith must be in God's only Son, Jesus Christ.
You were a credit to the uniform, Trooper Haywood. My heart goes out to your loved ones left behind and may the Lord comfort them as only He can.

Just thinking about you today, and thinking about your family who misses you everyday. I wanted you to know that we will never forget about you and the sacrifice that you made this day four years ago and the sacrifice your family has to make everyday without you. I have my blue candles that burn 24/7 for all the hero in Heaven and actively on duty. We will never forget.

Well it has been 4 years today Trooper. I just wanted to drop a quick note to say that you are not forgotten. Even when I am working, citizens will come up to me and talk about you and what a great person you were. I must say thank you to you Trooper Haywood for wearing this uniform proudly and serving the citizens of this great state in the manner you did. We lost a true hero 4 years ago, but your service will always be remembered.

It has been 4 years since the your tragic, senseless death. I saw the impounded motorcycles that were involved in your death the other day and once again prayed for you and your family. I know you are looking down and protecting your troopers that put their lives on the line every day. We miss you, Trooper Haywood.

Mr. Haywood, I never thought the day would come, you would not be on the grill cooking hotdogs for me and Darryl. You are my role model and you still are my role model. As you are looking down on us in heaven keep your wings around your family and myself. One day we all will meet again at the golden gates of heaven. God is still blessing you and your family.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Three years ago.. we get so very busy in our daily lives that we have a tendency to place past events on shelf somewhere. You will not be put on that shelf. One can only hope you will be with us, protecting us as we continue to patrol the big road. Protect your family as well. Thanks for everything then and now.
