Ran across this post just recently. Darryl was a good guy and friend. His locker was right next to mine during my time at Highway 1 (NYPD). We had the banter of brothers. Was sad to read of his passing. Fidelis ad Mortem, Brother.

Twenty years in one of the toughest cities in the world and then to continue your service elsewhere when far easier and less stressful jobs are available is beyond selfless and heroic. Thank you for your service and please know that your sacrifice will never, ever be forgotten by your law enforcement brethren.

Hey Troop I remember where we met. LPGA Blvd and Derbyshire I said give me a stack of blue forms, I'll handle this. I used to be a city cop. You said as you wish brother here you go. Out of the trunk of that damn Camaro came an unopened stack of driver exchange. I was the first deputy at your crash, and I cry about it all the time.

Trooper Darryl Louis Haywood Sr. ( Detective Haywood Sr. NYPD), thank you for ALL you have done for our great nation. You are truly a Law Enforcement hero who continued to work in Law Enforcement because you wanted to continue your vocation to help others. May your soul rest in Heaven, and may God bless your family, especially your son who also served with the Florida Highway Patrol.

Darryl was an academy classmate of mine with the NYPD, 80-07. He was a quite guy with a good sense of humor. During our time in the PD I came across him a few times when he was with the Highway Unit. Condolences to family and friends. He's missed.

Hey my friend, I was just talking about you the other day. I was showing off your baton that Linda gave me and explaining what happened and how we became friends. I keep the baton in my patrol car and your FHP shirt is hanging up in my closet. I also told them some of the stories we all talked about while at Dr. Dixon's home. FUNNY, FUNNY AND FUNNY . Well man you continue to rest and watch over all of us. Well will chat later, LORD WILL
