Reflections for Police Officer Christopher Jerome Sobieski

Officer Sobieski,
On today, the 20th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army in the Persian Gulf. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

I just read about this on a Military Police page. Chris was the first MP to befriend me when I arrived at Fort McPherson in 1985. A genuinely nice person. I always thought that he was too nice to be an MP. Rest in Peace Brother.

Thinking of you and all of your loved ones today. I also lost my police officer son to a drunk driver but I was lucky not to have to go through the trial or see an injustice reached after the completion of the trial because the driver that killed my son was also killed. Know that you will never be forgotten as true heroes never die. Thank you for your dedication to law enforcement and to others.

Ofc. Sobieski,

I have written to you before, but the other night out of the blue, your name popped into my head and I felt the need to come back and visit your site. You have not been forgotten by me. The similarities between your and my husbands situations are haunting. Both never should have happened. And as for the justice system, Maryland's is not much better. I had to fight parole not even six months after the guy who killed my husband was put in jail. It will be an uphill battle for the next two years to keep him in there. It is a shame that your life was only worth 180 days to the justice system in Texas. Don't worry though, God will have the final say one day.

Please continue to keep watch over your family, friends, and co-workers from above...always.

My thoughts are with your loved ones on this 2nd anniversary of your end of watch. My son was also killed by a drunk driver while he was on patrol, but I did not have go through the tramatic trial ordeal and then have to put up with a slap on the wrist that the individual that took Chris' life received. In my case the other person was also killed. Chris is a true hero and heroes never die. Keep watch over your loved ones and protect them from harm and also those still out on patrol watching over the Thin Blue Line. You will never be forgotten.

Chris,
I hope that heaven is full of horses and dogs, I know that you will be taking care of them all. I miss you man. It took me almost 2 years before I could eat at Ranchito's again as that was the last place that I saw you and we stood by our patrol cars and talked about horses, police cars and guns. I am proud to have worked with you. The last case we worked together we took a five time DWI offender off of the steets. That always hits me in the heart. Rest easy and watch over the rest of us. Thanks.

Chris,
I never had the pleasure of meeting you, but want to reassure you that the service you provided and the ultimate sacrifice that you made will not be forgotten. Yesterday, I attended a dinner that was provided by your wife, among others, in Center, Texas. The dinner was arranged as an opportunity for officers in the East Texas area to gather in remembrance of you and our other brothers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Your wife is a wonderful person with some great ideas. I think I can speak for all area officers in thanking her from the bottoms of our hearts for providing an opportunity for us to gather in remembrance. I know that you are very proud of her as you watch down from above. May you rest in peace brother.

First I would like to thank everyone for all of their kind words and encourgement. The one thing that helps me get through this whole things is knowing that Chris died doing what he loved. He always wanted to be a policeman even as a small child, his mother once told me. We used to give him a hard time about what else would he be with the birthday of Sept. 11th (911). I thank God each and everyday for the 18 years that we had together. I am also glad that we had had those last 2 weeks together when he took his vacation time for is birthday. He had just turned 39. I told him, "Look honey just one more year till the big 40". He just laughed at me, and told me that was ok because he was like a fine wine and just got better with time. I send all my prayers to all others that may have lost a loved one.

Hey Chris,
The guy that hit you got something, not what he should have gotten, but at least he got some jail time. Guess no matter how much time he got still won't bring you back.
Anyway, just wanted to let ya know.

Harris County Sheriff's Office

Uncle Chris,
You are a true hero to all of us. Your service was second to none, and you set an example for the rest of your brothers in the law enforcement community to follow. The honor and character you displayed as an officer of the law, a husband, father, and most important to me an uncle are the best attributes and individual can display. We can never replace a person like you, and only hope to live up to your expectations of us as a family. I know you were on my shoulders when my helicopter crashed in the Atlantic Ocean 25 January 2005. In my mind you are my guardian angel, and thank god he gave me someone like you. We love you, and miss you beyond words can ever express.

Your nephew,

I know this is a very difficult day for the Sobieski family and there are more to come. All you can do is take one day at a time and keep Chris" memory alive. He will never be forgotten and is a true hero. I hope he is watching over his family and comforting them by wrapping his arms around all you. I ask that his close friends also watch over his family.
