I graduated from the Mesa, AZ police academy on Friday September 3rd, 2004. A few short days after Officer Barcena graduated from his. I knew the risks and challenges that lay ahead and I am certain Officer Barcena did as well. Many of those risks and challenges are why most of us become police officers because being officers affords us a tremendous opportunity to make a difference and to at least attempt to help those you can not help themselves. Edmund Burke said the following.

"The only thing neccesary for
the triumph of evil is for good
men to do nothing"

We ARE those good men and "women" charged with standing up to that evil. When others run the other way we run toward it. And we support and cherish our own. To the El Paso Police Department, all of Officer Barcena's classmates at the El Paso academy, and his family take comfort knowing that he is with God patroling the streets of heaven and that he passed doing something that most others simply will not and could not do.
We will continue where you left off!!!

It is not how Officer Barcena gave his life, but how he lived his life that was most important. For his willingness to devote himself and his talents for the protection of the members of the community, he's done his job well here on Earth.

For Officer Barcena's family, his friends, his FTO, his co-workers and his acquaintances, my thoughts and prayers are with you, for strength, patience, and comfort through the difficult days ahead. Keep good memories in mind ~ they are what will carry you through.

To the family, friends, and coworkers of Officer Barcena. I know all to well the pain and confusion you are feeling right now. I can tell you I have found comfort in the past few weeks knowing that God needed officer Rittenhouse (9/26/04) to work the beat in heaven.
Im sure he wants Officer Barcena to do the same.
