Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Detective Robert L. Parker

No one loved being a N.Y.P.D. Detective more than Det. Bobby Parker. Eventhough he was the senior Detective on the team he was always willing to roll up his sleaves and get "DIRTY". He taught me a lot about Detective work, as he taught many others before me, and for that I am forever greatful. Thank you Mr. Parker. Rest in peace.

Jeremiah 29:11 says, "I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and no evil, to give you a future and a hope".

There is a peace that paces all understanding. It is our prayer for you and your family that you receive that peace that goes beyond our ability to understand "Why".

May God Bless you and carry your family through this time. Please watch over us from God's side. We love you so!

Yesterday I attended the funeral of Det. Parker. The funeral held in a Brooklyn Church was heard via speaker by all of us who came & were outside the church. The Pastor took a couple of moments to reflect upon this "gentle giant's" life. One thing I remember the Pastor talking about was how he and Brother Parker would spend hours talking about the Lord. As I heard that, I smiled, because I knew Brother Parker didn't have to inquire about his Lord any more. He's now in His presence. The NYPD has lost a good man, but Heaven has gained a good man too. See you one day, my Brother.

I met "Bobby" at the beginning of his illustrious career at NSU-13 in Brooklyn North. I quickly learned that his heart and sense of humor was as big as his well-muscled body. Bobby always made certain everyone he saw that day shared a smile or laugh with him. He loved "the job"......his job and learned it well. I distinctly remember that he treated everyone with respect even done to his "collars". Bobby was well-liked and respected on and off the mean streets of PBBN. I will never forget him nor what he stood for,,,, simply love. Rest well...you are loved.

~The Dash Between The Years~

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning ... to the end.
He noted that first came her date of birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the "dash" between those years. (1900-1970)

For that "dash" represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth
And only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own;
The cars...the house...the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our "dash".

So think about this long and hard
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real,
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,
And show our appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we've never loved before
If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy's being read
With your life's actions to rehash
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your "dash"?
-----

Robert Parkers lived his "dash" to the fullest. May he rest in peace.

As i watched the news my heart just broke. How dare he live, how dare he survive his gunshots!! It makes one so angry,we get a scratch and never survive, perps get shot a million times and still survive...I don't know if i'll ever understand that. But god had another plan and he needed another angel. May god give your family peace and strength in the days ahead. May they along with your friends find the strength to remember all the good times, fun and love that he was so generous with. I didn't personally know him,but then again i didn't have to.The loss is overwhelming whether you knew him or not.Rest and be at peace now my brother in blue.
