My heart goes out to the Walsh family during this tragic time of sorrow.
Please know that Ofc. Walsh was a great asset to our department and will be missed.
He always had a smile on his face and said hello to me anytime he saw me, either on or off duty.
I've worked in the Comm Center for 20 years, and have had the pleasure of knowing the "seasoned" officers as well as the the "green beans".
Our department should hold their heads up high and be proud that they were able "to serve and protect" with "Hollywood"!

For those of you reading this that did not know Hollywood, as his friends called him. He was a fun outgoing guy. The picture on this page unfortunely does not show his smile that would melt anyone's heart. He always had a joke or two. I was in class with him for a week and he had us laughing the whole time. He will be missed by all. My condolences to the Joliet PD and all those that knew him. Also to those who never had the privallage of meeting him. You would have loved him almost as much as his comarades did. He is up in Hevan watching over all officers now. remember to Have fun but be safe. Hevan called him to help protect them and watch over those on the street. Love ya Hollywood!

To the family, friends and co-workers my prayers are with you. I wish there was something I could say or do to help you through this, but as everyone here knows there is nothing. The only saving grace for me was knowing that Clint loved being a police officer.
Officer Walsh your family will miss you everyday, but we will never forget you. Thank you for your sacrifice, you gave your all...

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

I was on duty when the ISPERN went out about the Joliet officer injured in a hit and run, shortly thereafter our desk advised us over the in car radio that it was a fatality involving a police officer. My heart sank and i said a quick prayer for the officer, his family and members of the Joliet Police Department. Rest easy Ofc Walsh your patrolling a much better place. To the family of Ofc Walsh I send my deepest sympathies. May the strength of your faith and help from God guide you through this difficult time. To the members of the Joliet Police Department, know that all of us in blue grieve with you.

“REMEMBER ME”
Law enforcement officers are, indeed, a special breed of people. Ask anyone on the street and they will tell you that they would not have our jobs for anything in the world. It takes something special to do what we do and at the same time be able to even contemplate retirement. We try to be optimists. Unfortunately, there are a few of us who will never make that date with retirement. By the very nature of our job, we are at risk everyday of losing our lives, either at the hand of some deranged individual or in some other situation that we, by virtue of our occupation, may be unable to avoid. Some people have recognized the hazardous duties we involve ourselves in, the risks we take, and the pride we take in accomplishing that job. There is National Law Enforcement Week, dedicated to us who gladly accept the responsibility of protecting the citizens in our respective jurisdictions. National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day is dedicated to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. These are but a two examples of remembrances specifically for law enforcement personnel. Remembrances that come but once a year. We should remind fellow officers of another type of remembrance, one that will last a lifetime. Sooner or later, a doctor will pronounce us dead. It is inevitable. Regardless of whatever happens, death is the end we will all have to face.

If I knew when I spoke to you that afternoon that I would never see you again, I would never have let you leave the station that fateful day. You quietly have always been an inspiration to me. If I was down all I had to do was talk to you and I would never remember why I was upset in the first place. I owe more to you than most people know. You introduced me to the person who became the love of my life, and because of that you will always be by my side. No one that knew you will ever forget your smile, your courage, your friendship. I LOVE YOU BRO and I will always remember - because heroes live forever.
