The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"
Rest in Peace, we have the watch from here.

Todd, rest in peace. Your brothers/sisters and I will take up the fight. Thank you for your service. You are a true warrior who died with honor. "Greater love hath no man than he who lays down his life for a friend"--John 15:13. How much greater love is there than you who gave your life protecting people you didn't even know. God Bless you and your family forever.

To the family and fellow deputies of Detective Fatta, I know that it is hard to imagine that you could ever loose someone that you love so much, and you think that you can never go on living life normal again. It will take time, tears, prayer, and help from friends and family to get through this hard time. I know how you are all feeling right now and feel your pain. We lost a great Officer and friend on October 25, 2003, Officer Daniel Starks. I lost my best friend that day and when I heard the news I was in shock and thought that I was having a bad dream. I didn't want to believe it was true, and could not comprehend that my buddy was gone and I would not get to see him again. But through help from family and friends, and alot of prayer it has helped me go on. Only time will heal your pain, and help you go on. I still miss Dan every single day and think of him, but I know he is in heavnen looking down on us. And now he has another brother in Law Enforcement to help him protect the streets in heaven. Just remember at those times that you think you cant go on anymore, think of the good times you shared and the great memories you have of Detective. Fatta and you will probably smile and have a laugh. God Bless and stay strong.

May God Bless Detective Fatta for doing what he loves to do in order to protect his community from people wanting to cause harm to others. May God bless his family, friends, and co-workers and may he give them the strength to deal with the loss of a man who was loved by so many. I want to take this time out to thank all of the men and women in every agency who come to work to protect and serve. Detective Fatta, may you now be at peace and comfort as you patrol the streets in a much far greater place. To your family and Brothers and Sisters in uniform, my prayers and thoughts are with all of you. On August 18, the Indianapolis Police Department lost a wonderful young Officer, Timothy Jacob Laird, to gunfire as well. With a relative on the IPD, it makes you more aware of the everyday sacrifices that are given by the men and women in law enforcement. Detective Fatta, Officer Laird awaits your arrival. You will never be alone. God Speed.
