Today we mourn as another hero is taken from us. My deepest sympathy to the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Laird. May the Lord give you strength and bless each of you during this time.
Rest in peace for your watch here is over; walk in heavens beat and guide us all to protect and serve others safely.

To the family of Officer Laird, my heart goes out to you. There is a strong support group within the police department that will be there for you. To the Indianapolis Officers, We lost a fellow brother last year in a senseless shooting just as you now have experienced. The hurting will go away over time, but the memory will last a lifetime. I will keep you and yours in my thoughts as I load up my car to hit the streets. Rest in peace Brother Laird, we have the watch from here.

I lost a brother on the job earlier this year. To Officer Laird's wife and family, I promise you will get through this. It has been six months since we lost my brother and I can now go about my daily life. You will never forget him but the memories will not be so sad, they even become happy ones. Although I never met Timothy I can see from his picture he took pride in himself and the job. Let the department and the community help you get through this. To the Indianapolis Police Department keep your chins up and continue the fight. Without you guys, the hero(s) that ended this mess, as well as the wounded officers and Timothy, this maniac was going to do more. As hard as it is to accept Officer Laird made the ultimate sacrifice and that is noble. The Laird family, the department, community, and the country should be very very proud. Timothy Jacob Laird went from a very dangerous place to a very safe place and he will now guard the Gates Of Heaven.

While ordinary people would run with terror, extraordinary people like you raced toward the incident with duty and dignity. My thoughts are of your family at this painful time and they are in my daily prayers. You've done your duty and have made the ultimate sacrifice. Rest well Ofc. Laird. We all salute you.

Shoulder to shoulder
standing side by side,
I.L.E.A. graduates are at
attention beaming with pride.

Thoughts towards the future
of a career that lies ahead,
it's all brand new and exciting
with nothing to dread.

The years will add up
and so will the scars,
responding to domestics
and fights at the bars.

Foot chases, pursuits,
and felony stops,
that is just part of our
job as Indiana Cops.

DO IT RIGHT that's
what Indiana Cops do,
whether we are wearing
brown and tan or blue.

Injured in accidents some of
us beat the odds and survive,
we are able to look death in
the face and refuse to die.

Shoulder to shoulder
standing side by side,
each Sunday in church we
thank the Lord we're alive.

But in Indiana and across the
USA in towns large and small,
black shrouds remind us
of those who gave all.

The battle continues none of
their deaths were in vain,
we make sure to honor
the ones who were slain.

My fellow Indiana officers
in whom I can always confide,
we will be shoulder to shoulder
standing side by side.

There are 2 things in myself that I will never forget. The day my father passed, and the bone chilling call over the police radio I heard while chatting with a police officer at a local gas station. I knew Jake just in passing, and when he grinned at you, he looked like a 3rd grader ready to play a prank. You done the city proud, and I know all the officers in the south district really miss you, along with the rest of IPD. Rest in peace Officer Laird. Best wishes to your wife, and your daughter. They will be in my prayers. See you in heaven one day.

The "what-if's" will alway be in my mind as I replay the night of August 18, 2004--did I get you help quick enough? did I handle myself professionally on the radio? etc.,even though I know that I could not control the actions of that one individual that caused this tragedy. You will be greatly missed.....God Bless You....

My prayers, my thoughts, and my tears go out to the family and friends of a fallen brother.

It's been eight months since we felt the loss of two of our own in Mishawaka. Everytime an officer makes the ultimate sacrifice, words can not express the sorrow and the pain.

This is my attempt from my family to Officer Lairds and his brothers in blue, to express my sorrow. We are all family, and we all share the pain of your loss. God Bless
