Reflections for Patrol Officer Trey Michael Hutchison

On behalf of my family, I wish to extend to the family of officer Trey Hutchison and the Bossier City Police Department our heart felt prayers and sympathy. My family knows all to well the pain that you are going though. I wish we had some magical words to help you ease the pain. I pray that God will hold you tight during this trying time, He will see you through this.

As a wife of a Law Enforcement Officer it is my nightly prayer that all our LEO'S stay safe.

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Our prayers are with the family at home and at work. There are no words that fully express the pain and heartache. Comfort each other.
He has earned his place now amongst a host of heros. They all watch over us.
May he rest in peace.

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Trey did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Trey be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Hutchison's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his wife. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Trey is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Trey was well respected and well loved.

Thank you Officer Hutchison for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiance Dennis for me.

Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

Starched Blue and shades of Gray and Black
Stand in a line, tears holding back.
The way a solid silence falls-
It shakes the earth and leaves in awe.

A hue of light beneath the dark,
A way an old flame feels a spark
Amongst the cruel, incessant truth
Of a heart that ceased in bloody proof.

I know I saw you once before
Unsaid, unheard in an open door,
And you shook my hand and you laughed aloud
In the way an old friend says he’s proud.

And I knew you once in a forgotten stare
With a gun drawn tight and somebody there,
And you closed your eyes so that I could see
That this job is not just destiny.

And the badge is heavy on my cotton shirt
And the tears strike hard on the newly turned dirt
For dispatcher says that I must answer the call
But it seems you’ve already taken that fall.

So you took your last breath in a green front yard
With an manicured lawn and a foreign car
At the will of another whom you went to aid
In a blind rage response when he had a bad day

I know I’ve said it out loud and true
“Don’t take the black shirts, the gray, or the blue.”
I said it there on my knees in the dark
Eyes up from the earth, hands crossed in an arc.

Oh, I know I could have beaten you there
With my tombstone courage and my fugitive stare
But, my friend, God said he needed you
Damned Starched shades of Black, and Gray, and Blue.

Perhaps he knew that you could not be replaced
And the dignity of your heart could not be defaced.
And the limelight should always fall without pause
Who stand among many but die for our cause.

Be quiet now, officer, your job is 10-8.
Revel with God now; you are a hero of fate.

Officer Hutchison's family and friends,

My heart goes out to all of you. I know only to well what pain you will live with for the rest of your lives because a coward shot your loved one in the back. My brother was shot in the back of the head on August 11, 2002 by a coward also. You have a special place in my heart and I will keep you all in my thoughts this week.

A big hug,

To the family, friends, and co-workers my prayers are with you. It hurts everytime I open this website to see another officer added. I wish there was something I could say to help you through this terrible time, but there is nothing. The only thing that got me through, I knew Clint loved being a police officer, and could'nt wait until he could go to work. I bet Trey loved being an officer also. Trey and Clint along with alot of other hero's are walking God's beat now.
Officer Trey, I know that your family will miss you everyday, but we will never forget you... Look Clint up, I know you will become fast friends, tell him, his mom and his whole family misses him...

Tomorrow I will be attending the services for Off. Hutchison. I did not know Off. Hutchinson personally but I feel the effects as if I did. he graduated the police academy the class prior to me and attended with one of my co workers. How many times have we answered a 911 hangup or an alarm activation. We train and train for different scenarios and even when you do everything by the book sometimes the cards are just stacked against you. It's those chances we are willing to take to make a difference that set us apart from everyone else. I send my sympathy and support.
