Reflections for Police Officer LaToya Nicole Johnson
When I received my latest email of "NYPD Ramblings #101" and they mentioned the deaths of PO Latoya Johnson and others, something just made me want to find out more about this female officer. I am always saddened to hear about another officer's death but when I put a face to the name and read about her young daughter and impending marriage, I was saddened even more. I will be keeping this family and especially this now motherless child in my prayers and I encourage us all to do the same.

Happen to come across this page while searching for hotel information to visit family members and saw a lovely lady with a beautiful smile that lit up my whole screen. My deepest sympathy to the family. I know it's hard because I too have lost someone dear to me, but you know what there's a man oh what a man and his name is Jesus Christ and Latoya's smile is shining brightly in the heavens. May God console your spirts and heart.

As a former police officer, I always review the Officer Down Memorial page, having lost a fellow officer and friend in 1991 (Wade Barrett, Dekalb Co. PD, GA). When I saw your picture, the first thing that came to mind was how radiant your smile was. I pray that your family and friends will always remember your smile and that vision will continue offer them the light and comfort they need to carry on.
Rest in peace Officer Latoya Johnson. If we are lucky, we will see you again where I know your smile is lighting up the heavens.

I never knew of this page until Will told me about it. I had to leave a note paying my respects to you. You never know how much someone impacts your life until their gone. Last time I saw you was for Night Out Against Crime on Rousslin and Aubry. I have this memory in my head of you and Summer "gettin down" listening to the wicky wicky song. Me and T.J. was just laughing watching ya'll.
I was in Metarie on the service road and I was passing Tic-Toc Cafe the other night and I noticed on a posting the cafe put up about 30 feet in the air. It read "Latoya Johnson N.O.P.D. God bless you. At that point I realized the lives you impacted. You're beautiful inside and out and I do miss you.

I pray that you are safe in the arms of our Living God. Although we had never met, we carry a bond of Brotherhood and Sisterhood. We wear our badge proudly and respect the oath that we have taken to do our duty. My mother in law called and told me what had happened. She is your cousin. We had spoken briefly about you while she was visiting in June and she was proud of the work that not only you and I, but others do to keep our communities safe. I have read the reflections of those who knew you and if I can be half of the Officer that you were, I would stand tall and proud. I thank you for you Courage, Honor and Professionalism.
You will always be in my prayers.

My husband was killed 4/21/04 he had only been on the job for 9 months and was the first deputy killed in the of duty in 17 years. We only been married for 4 wonderful years and had 3 children together. It has only been about 4 months since that night and I really wish I can offer some comforting words or advise but I know first hand there are none. I can only say hold on to the memories that you have and also
know you are not alone. You will be in my thoughs and prayers.
Officer Johnson is a hero in my eyes as well as many others she will never be forgotten. And were even she may be I know she has a wonderful fellow officer keeping her company.

TO: The family; loved ones; friends and department members: A POLICE OFFICER’S PRAYER : O, gentle Lord! Keep the day / night watch with me. As I begin my tour of duty, I ask your protection from all mental, physical and spiritual harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing your work, endeavoring to keep peace among your people. Help me to be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone. May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties. Let me respond to all calls with haste realizing that so many are dependent on me for life and safety. Support me with your consoling power when I am tempted to think that no one really cares and that I am taken for granted. Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are grateful for my presence. Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and my fellow officers, and that I may back them up effectively when called upon for assistance. Lord, I ask that I may return safely, after my tour of duty, to my loved ones and those who love me. I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer; and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that you have promised to those who serve you well. AMEN. ** REST IN PEACE** Sent to you by the father of Master Officer J.D.Koeppen, Capital City Raleigh NC; Trooper D.C. Koeppen, NJ State Police and Cadet Officer A.M. Koeppen Wilmington N.C.

Though i only knew you and Summer cordially, the professional way you guys carried yourselves is a true credit to our department. You are gone in body but not in spirit, lady. Your memory is with us forever. And to your family, you will always be in my prayers and you need not worry, because on August 9, 2004, Raven gained uncles and aunts who will always be there for her.
