Reflections for Police Officer Michael Patrick Gordon

Hey Mikey,

I keep your photo in my visor so every time I look up I see that crooked mug.

By the way "Flash" is driving me nuts with his Web jokes.

He's your old man. Do something!

Miss you.

Mr. GORDON,

Sir, you are one "good man". Please stay well, Michael would expect that out of you, and please keep writing your stories of your "Michael".

Michael does not need prayers, he is already a full pledged angel. My prayers are for you and yours sir.

May the Almighty father walk with you dear sir.

Going through a website and saw you passed. Garza told me your story was on here so had to check it out. Sad to hear about your passing. You could always make everybody laugh. God Bless and keep looking out for your family. You will be deeply missed.

Hi Mike,

Just checking in to let you know we are all thinking about you, every day. Today is the South Side Irish Parade. Your two brothers took their children to the parade and I know you would have had your daughter there or possibly working the parade on duty. It was your favorite parade just like St. Paddy's Day is probably the holiday you loved the most. No one can say you didn't love being Irish. Tomorrow I travel down to the State Capital as a guest speaker for a group of Downstate Probation Officers. I know a number of people think DUI is a victimless crime, I will be there as an impact speaker to let them know that this is an untruth as all your loved ones left behind are victims, mainly your children. Mom is taking a ride with me, I guess she doesn't trust me driving alone. When I tell her how I drove non stop from New Mexico to Chicago non stop, she says thats when I was younger. Not a day goes by we don't think of you. If we could only turn back time. Continue to keep watch over the Gordon Clan for me. Love and miss you every day.

Love,
Dad

Hi Mike,

Been trying to keep busy. I have a number of speaking engagements coming up, two down in the State Capital reference DUI Victim Impact and what it has done to our family. We will never let you be forgotten. I promised a Michael story so here it is.

Michael Story:

I received this information from one of your Army Buddies who was stationed with you in Korea. I will keep him anonymous. You were told while in Basic Training that you would be going to Korea, reason being the psychological affect you would have on the local people because you were 6'5". Seems like they sent all the tall people there, even the tall female soldiers. You were an Military Policeman but also had training and received your Driver's Badge. You applied for a job as the driver for the Commander of the 55th Military Police Company in Korea. He was an African American and I remember that you more or less got the job because you had the same taste of music as he did. At the initial interview he had asked you what kind of music you liked and I know you started naming off African American groups. You always did have the gift to B.S. as everyone that knows you can attest to the story telling ability you had. Funny, your range of music was from Sinatra to Rap and everything in between. Well, heres the story. The Commander went to Seoul for a weekend and advised you he wouldn't be needing you as his driver that weekend. You and your buddy decided you would take a road trip yourselves to Seoul, using the Commander's vehicle. You were not authorized to be using the vehicle unless you were driving the Commander around. You and your buddy both ended up partying in Seoul for the weekend and eventually made it back to your post believing you had gotten away with sneaking off with the car. A few days later the Commander finally confronted you about being with his vehicle in Seoul and not being unauthorized having it. To make a long story short, while he was in Seoul he saw you and your friend on the streets of Seoul, with his vehicle. What are the chances of being caught since there are over 11 million people living in Seoul, but that was your luck. He restricted you both to the base for a few weekends with some extra duty but most importantly, he liked you enough not to report you to your Platoon Sergeant which would have meant some serious punishment and he also kept you as his driver. We love and miss you Mike, each day is a challenge for me and believe me, the old saying, "Time heals all wounds" is not true.

Love,
Dad

May God be with you and all who mourn you. May he give them the strength to carry on. You are in my thoughts and prayers

To his kids: Keep hanging in there. You are strong enough to survive this. Your dad loves you now and always. Never forget that.

Michael,
I see from the last reflection from your dad, that you are still making a difference in other's lives. Now that law has been passed may we also pass a law making drivers responsible for their speed when they are approaching the scene of an accident where Officers, Firefighters, Paramedics etc. are performing their duties. The posted speed limit should no longer matter in these cases and all drivers must slow down or pay the price for taking the life of one of the Peoples employees. To say I was not speeding is not good enough! May you continue to be recognized as the HERO you are!

Thank you for the DUI arrests in Mike's honor. In Illinois we had a law passed, "Michael's Law" with 3 strikes. 1. No License, 2. No Insurance and 3. BA of .08 or higher makes it a Class 4 Felony. Prior to this change in the law in was only a misdemeanor. Thank you everyone that visits and leaves messages at this site, means allot to me and my family. I'll be back in a few days with a new Michael Story.

Love,
Dad

Mr. Gordon,
I miss your Michael stories and have been thinking of you and your family. I am sorry that you are without one of your sons and that nothing can be done to make the hurting go away. Just wanted you to know, that your stories touch my heart and keep your son's spirit alive. I hope that you are hanging in there. May God continue to watch over you, your family and the thin blue line.

I accidently came across the site and was compelled to write. Reading Mr. and Mrs. Gordon's stories about Michael was truly heartwarming. I can't imagine the pain you must feel and all I can say is I am so sorry and this world was blessed with a great hero. I want to thank Michael for protecting us and judging from all the comments you raised an excellent person. God bless the Gordon family.

Dear Mike,

Happy "35th" Birthday! You are loved and missed everday.

I remember us celebrating your 21st birthday after you finished Basic (Ft. McClellan, AL) and were being sent to Korea. Dad and I ran out to get you a small ice cream cake (your favorite) and we all celebrated in our hotel room.

I remember being so worried that you had to leave the States (later it would be Bosnia) and praying nothing would happen to you. No one would have guessed that our major worry would be you dying in the streets here.

Love you always and forever.

Mike...I know today...is another...especially difficult one...of the many days...that your parents...and your family...have spent...without you...in these soon to be...5 years.

I understand how much...your family...would love to have been able...to celebrate...your 35th Birthday...with you...teasing...laughing...and loving...every moment...in your company.

My thoughts are with them...and you are all...in my prayers.

Have a Blessed Birthday...as you watch over all of them... they miss you so.

Officer Gordon,
I know your heaven with my son and probably greeted him when he arrived. Thank you for that, I know he's being watched over in heaven by his fellow brothers in blue and that's a great comfort to me. Your father always manages to write to my Mike on special occasions. The last one being my son's birthday on Valentines Day. What a lucky man you were to have a father like him, his messages always seem to make me feel better and comforted. You know there are similarities in you and my son, vague though they may be. You both have the same first names, both taken from us in vehicle accidents and both fathers are Chiefs with a police department.
Thank you Officer Gordon and please continue to watch over your family and all police officers. You'll forever be in my prayers and someone I consider a friend even though we've never met.
With great respect,
