The work has not changed much and it probably won't. However, your legacy continues to inspire others...

You are missed and in the hearts of many...

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Thank You for having served the Los Angeles area. I was stoked to discover that a tract of land had been named in Your honor, when other considerations had originally been given, regarding the name.

We were able to obtain a conviction of Second Degree Murder for the person who took your life. He was sentenced to thirty years in prison…but it just doesn’t seem to be enough. I got the chance to know your family during the course of the trial. They were a blessing. You should be very proud of them. They are a true example of Christ’s love and compassion. As a retired law enforcement officer and now a deputy prosecuting attorney I feel very honored to have worked this case and to have had the opportunity to get to know your precious family. We’ll see you in heaven my brother.

Brad was a close friend, a brother in arms, and a spiritual leader in the local law enforcement community. Brad lived all that he believed in and so generously shared his love for his family, his job, his friends and most of all his God. He was an example to all that had the prevelige to know him. Be forever at peace my brother. Until we meet again.

When my wife, Jennifer called me to tell me that one of her step dads guys had been killed in the line of duty I was shocked and upset that someone had hurt a fellow law enforcement officer.

At the time of Sgt. Crawfords death I was at the Spokane Police Academy training to become a Police Officer.

I remember thinking to myself, that I wish that I could take some time off so that I could attend the ceromony in Vancouver so that I could stand next to my fellow brothers and sisters and honor a TRUE AMERICAN HERO, who gave his life to serve the citizens of Clark County.

Sgt. Crawford, rest in peace my brother. You will always be in my families hearts.

As time passes since July 30, 2004 it reminds me that Brad actively cherished all parts of his life. His top priorities of God, Family and love for his job were evident. Brad did fit in the other important items like hunting, fishing and other outdoor events to keep a balance. As Spring comes into bloom, I know God used Brad's life to plant many tiny seeds of faith and love in those he met.

It is tremendous loss but it was a great honor and joy to have Brad as part of Clark County Sheriff's Office. I miss his smile and enthusiam. My heart goes out in prayer to strengthen his family.

I am thinking of all of Brad's family,
friends and co-workers as Thanksgiving has just passed and
Christmas is fast approaching. I
know it must be very difficult to go
on without him everyday, but especially at the holidays. May the bright light of happy memories dry the tears. God bless.
