After reading Bay Constable Brooks' memorial - it was obvious that he lived a life of honor and service to his fellow man. Now after reading the reflections from some of the Naval parents, where his son proudly serves our country, it is obvious that these values have been passed on to his children. He was certainly a true American hero.
To Mrs. Brooks, his children and law enforcement family - our prayers are with you. May God give you comfort and peace.

My deepest sympathy to the Brooks family. I am at a loss of words. I was onscene and I am still going over this tragedy in my mind. I am a fairly new officer and this is the first and hopefully last time I am dealing with a line of duty death so close to home. Thank you for your service and thank you and your brother constables for backing us on numerous car stops on the Ocean Pkwy. We know the dangers that we face everyday. May God bless you and your family.

We send out our sincere sympathies to the Brooks family in this tragic situation. While we live very far away from you, we heard of your loss through the Naval Academy's parents website. We trust that Richard's son and his family will feel the "family" support in belonging to the Naval Academy and that he will be well-supported as he returns to Annapolis. Our prayers go out to this family and their community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Richard Brooks' family, friends, and co-workers. We pray that your tears of anger and sorrow will soon turn into tears of remembering, and those memories will permit your hearts to begin to heal.
We pray that his son, who is a Midshipman at the US Naval Academy, will hold the memories of his father close and find both comfort and power in them. Your extended USNA family has him in their prayers.
Be Strong.

To Constable Brooks Family, Friends & Colleges:
Please know that your loss is felt across borders and boundries. As a former constable of 11 years before switching to the Department, I know that if not for the grace of God go I. Having attended many memorials and funerals during my 20 years of service, please accept my thoughts and prayers for you at this tough time.
As a friend of mine once said, " we don't want to know exactly what you do as a police officer, simply that you are there and keeping us safe. "

To the family of Constable Richard Brooks:
Dear Family,
My heart is heavy today as I visit the Memorial Page. I am grieved to find that another life was given as a sacrifice to ensure the safety of others. I can surely relate to your grief. My husband was Sergent Jeff Hewitt from the Buncombe County Sheriff's Dept. in Asheville, NC. He was killed in the line-of-duty on April 4th, 2004. I wish I could tell you that it gets easier with time, but I cannot. I can tell you that there are so many people in the world that are grateful to your husband, father, friend for the sacrifice that he made. I pray that God will give you the strength that you need to bear your heavy burden. I don't know how old your children are, but my son is 10 yrs old. If you or your children ever want someone to talk to, please don't hesitate to email us. Sometimes it helps to talk with someone who knows first hand about what your are feeling. The email address is: [email protected] My prayers are with you all.

"Lord, You said that
once I decided to follow you, You'd walk with me all
the way. But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life, there is only one set
of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed
you most you would leave me." The Lord replied,
"My son, My precious child, I love you and I would
never leave you. During your times of trial and
suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it
was then that I Carried You."
This is a short version on the poem, but I know in my heart that Constable Richard Brooks was carried away from that horrible day to a beautiful place.
God Bless you and your family.

I read this page every now and then and then I see how many officers are killed in the line of duty in the US. I think they are all heroes, because this work is so dangerous and though they serve and protect us every day. May God help the family and friends of Richard Brooks!
