Wesley, up to now, I haven’t been able to write my message to you, because it’s been too painful. But since it’s not getting any better I thought maybe if I wrote this message to you I’d begin to feel a little better with you not being here and missing the thought of you still riding the streets of Augusta.

If I knew that your visit with us in June would be your last visit with us, I would have begged you to stay a little longer, or perhaps even urged you not to leave, we would have visited more places and more people;

If I knew that it would be the last time I had a chance to greet and embrace you, I would have held you a little tighter and a little longer;

If I knew that your last email to me on July 7th would be the last email I’d receive from you, I would have told you to send the rest of those pictures of your visit with us;

If I knew that July 11th would be your last traffic stop, I would have asked to take that day off from work; or perhaps asked God to give you a little more time;

If I knew that God would call you home on July 11th , I would have asked you to tell our brother, Willie, that I said hello and I love and miss him very much;

If I only knew . . . . . . .

We have lost another brother, but Heaven has gained another angel. You guys behave up there, watch over all of us down here and always remember that you hold a special place in our hearts forever.

Remembering our last visit with you and all the good times we shared, I love you,

Your sister,
Bernice

I WORKED WITH WESLEY MACK FOR 2 YEARS AND RECEIVED A LIFETIME FRIENDSHIP WITH A GREAT PERSON. I REMEMBER RIDING THE LAKE BEAT AND WHEN HE WAS CAMPING HE WOULD FLAG ME DOWN TO HAVE DINNER WITH HE AND HIS FAMILY. HE JUST ALWAYS SEEMED TO GO ABOVE AND BEYOND WHATS EXPECTED OF A DEPUTY AND A FRIEND. I WISH I COULD HAVE TOLD HIM BYE. HE WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY THOUGHTS.

"Looking over the horizon, night breaks into dawn, I get a little misty eyed knowing you've gone on, I've come to realize just how much your presence meant to me, I also realize that now you're finally free. I'll always love you for the special times we shared all the times you let me know just how much you cared for me, I'll always love you you were someone that I could totally depend on, I love you and you're forever with me." This is what comes to mind when I think of my uncle, I think about how I was blessed for 29 years of my life to enjoy my uncle's season with me. My uncle was looked up to and admired by all of his neices and nephews, not because of the accomplishments he made but because of who he was as a person. I can specifically remember being a little boy when my uncle first went away in the Armed Forces. I can also remember how he would send letters back home including everyone in the letters or sending recorded tapes home talking to everyone of his brothers and sisters and neices and nephews and how we would listen to the tapes and laugh and play it back as he told us the many things that went on around him. My uncle was a man who shared his life with everyone he came in contact with in nothing but a positive way. His heart and his home was always open to all that visited and he made it a habit to visit his family and freinds everytime he got a chance. Words cannot express the loss that we have experienced. I thank God for allowing us as neices and nephews of Wesley Mack to have him as an uncle, God could have chosen any man to be that uncle to us, but he sent us a Dignified, God Fearing, Country Serving,People Pleasing, Kindhearted man, that we could never forget. Days won't be the same,nor will things to come but thank you for the best time of our lives. I know that your work here is done and your life is a lesson for not only your neices and nephews and children to follow but people you have touched. Thank you Uncle Wesley for making each and everyone of us feel like we were the most important person in the world. Though earth mourns a man, Heaven rejoices for another angel. We love you and will always remember your legacy.

Lovingly Submitted,
Your Neices and Nephews

I realize I did not work with Deputy Mack however he touched my life just the same. It was a GREAT comfort knowing that officer Mack was always "just around the corner". At almost forty years old I had my first accident. I was so upset. Officer Mack calmed my nerves and assured me that all would be OK. I know my accident was minor. There were no injuries (thank God), but he, with his compassion, did not trivialize this emotional time. His family must be so very proud of the man they were privelaged to know. I will pray for you all, but I know you have great pride in Officer Mack. He was a great presence and only brought honor and respect to the Columbia County Police Dept.

I pray for your family, friends and community to have strength doing this time of sorrow. Reading the reflections left by others brought back memories and emotions I had when we lost an Officer last year (Officer Rodney F. Pocceschi, End of Watch: Monday, June 23, 2003). The Reflections also demonstrates the highest respects from all who knew you. A true professional is what comes to mind. My brother in blue and fellow Blue Knight, I have no doubt that he will Ride with Pride with all those who preceded him in Heaven One.

I am a resident of Columbia County and a former Deputy.I lost a very close friend in the line of duty Mike Stephenson on July 16, 1997. I was prepared to go to Mikes grave and visit with him, as I have done on many occassions, he is buried in the same cemetary as Wesley is. So when I learned of Wesley's passing it was very emotional. I never spent time at Wesley's home or ate lunch with him, in fact the closest contact I had with him was when he patrolled my neigborhood and schools, or when I was on my Harley I would wave and recieve one in return. I was always impressed with the way he carried himself he exemplified the true meaning of here to protect and serve. You will be truly missed, and I would be honored to pay my respects to you when I vist Mike Stephenson on the July's to come. God Bless you Deputy Wesley Mack.

Wesley Mack exemplified all of the qualities of a truly professional and compassionate officer. He served the citizens of Columbia County with honor and it was certainly my honor to have known and worked with such a wonderful man. May you continue your watch in heaven and know that your presence will be sorely missed by all.

I saw Wesley about a week before he was taken from us. We laughed and cut-up the way we had always done. I wished I had known that would be the last time I would ever talk to Wesley Mack. Wesley was a great deputy and he was a great friend to us all. We will miss him dearly.
