Reflections for Sergeant Gregory Lei Hunter

Sgt. Hunter was my patrol Sergeant on evening shift for a short while and I considered a friend. I am blessed to have been able to serve time with Sgt. Hunter and learn the important things to being a police officer. I will miss his smile and the Christmas and Birthday cards that he stuck in my mailbox at work to show that he did not forget.

Happy Father Day Greg. I know you were a great one. I am praying for your family daily. I had known Greg for 15 years this past April. He was the one who handled my application and background. I don't think a single person ever had the ability to make you feel welcome like he did. From the day I was hired on as a Reserve Officer he always was there for me to offer a good word, motivation or to just ask "how were you were doing". I have been numb for a few days now. I have been trying to stay busy with Bruce and my fellow comrades in blue. I can't believe you are gone. I had the honor of preparing you uniform and pinning your badge on for the last time. I will miss you dearly friend. I only hope that this tragedy will bring us all closer together. I have told many of our fellow officers that if we ALL were more like you were everyday this nasty world we live in would be a better place. Rest peacefully, God Bless.

Another blue warrior has finished his shift and gone home to God. We can only imagine what kind of cowardly destruction the suspect had planned until you stopped him. You did a job that allowed thousands of unknowing citizens to go on about their day unharmed. I commend you sir and the bravery you displayed. You have earned your beat on Heaven's streets.

I have known Greg Hunter since my starting at Grand Prairie PD in 1986. I found Greg to always be a friendly, laid back type of guy who took care of business when needed, but who also had a warm side to him that left a good feeling to all those whose lives he touched both on and off duty.

When tragic, senseless deaths such his occur, we are dumbfounded to know "why". If only his murderer could have known what type of person Greg was, he would have known a good man who loved life and his family and fellow man.

None of us in law enforcement usually thinks each day we go to work will be our last as I'm sure Greg did not when he left his home. Acts such as this only go to bolster each of us doing our duty to maintain vigilance to expect the unexpected and how fragile and vulnerable we all our in this job because we deal with all manner of persons and unfortunately a few are bent on evil towards us for a variety of reasons.

I will miss Greg as will all who knew him and remember his warm smile and friendly manner. God Bless your family, Greg, and know that we will take care of them while your gone, but never forgotten.

To the friends and family of Sgt. Hunter: I know your hearts are filled with grief and despair. I’m so very sorry for your loss. He was a truly heroic, and brave, individual. His memories and good deeds will never be forgotten. I know that the coming days will be extremely difficult to bear, but pride, honor, memories, courage, and love will somehow thrive in the midst of all this tragedy. God’s abounding love, compassion, peace, and comfort, will surround your hearts and carry you through these horrible storms. Tonight I pray that God will carry your burdens, sorrow, and grief. I also pray that he gives you the strength and courage to cope during this difficult time. I will pray for all the lost souls out there that are committing these selfish, horrific acts. I will pray for God to reach out and surround our World with ALL the Love and Compassion he has. I am thankful to God for blessing us with “Sgt. Hunter,” one of many unselfish men/women that serve our country; that work to secure our freedom, safety, and protection; and especially for all their selfless, acts of courage they provide for our city.

Sad, proud, and thankful citizen

Such a short time ago you were smilling in the halls of the station, as usual. Greg you impacted all our lives in such a way you will never be forgoten. We love and miss you dearly. We will watch over your family as they are still our own. Your loss can only mean that all that knew you will miss the positive presence and infuence you gave us on a daily basis.

To those that may not have known Greg, look around in your ranks and find the best qualities in all your staff, complile those qualites in the leader and the men and put that all into one great man, named Greg Hunter.

Thanks to everyone for all the love and support at our time of this horrific loss.

Again, Greg we will miss you, you were GOLD.

As I sit here in our office typing this, it is hard to believe that when I turn around you will not be sitting there at your desk Greg. I expect to see you putting on your reading glasses and checking reports before you head home for the day. I really enjoyed our chats during those times and I will remember you everytime I get in our car to hit the streets. It seems like a nightmare and I hoped such a terrible thing would never strike our Police family again. You will be sorely missed and my families prayers are with your loved ones. I know you are at rest with God and we will see you again one day. Good Bye my friend.

To the family, co-workers, and friends of Sgt. Hunter---

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Obviously, no one can say or do anything to make this tragedy any easier for you to deal with, but please know that there are many of us who grieve with you and pray for you daily. And I must say I'm glad you don't have to go through a trial for Sgt. Hunter's murderer. Justice has been served - and swiftly. Psalm 16:11
