Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Gregory Lei Hunter

My 8 yr old son said "He always talked to me when I was at the police department with Dad, he was so nice....and he always smiled". So many lives Greg touched with just his smile. My heart goes out to all of you.

Once in Awhile

Once in a while, someone comes along.
That one in a million heart,
So pure and so strong.
They can face up to the tears.
And somehow still find a smile,
That we only get every once in a while.
Once in a while, someone has the eyes,
That one in a million look,
That never tells lies.
They can get you on your feet,
To walk that extra mile.
We only see every once in a while.
That's why we call them heroes.
That's why we know their names,
And once you've heard their stories,
You're never quite the same.
That's why we call them heroes.
The best thing they ever do,
Is to point to the best in us all,
And say: "If I can, you can too."
Once in a while, I still hear his voice.
That one in a million sound,
Like two laughin' boys.
He would hate it if we cried,
That never was his style.
Oh, we still miss him every once in a while.
They can face up to the tears.
And somehow still find a smile,
That we only get every once in a while.
Oh, how I miss him every once in a while.

To the Family & Co-workers of Sergeant Gregory Hunter.

I was touched hearing about the loss of Sergeant Hunter. I'm convinced he was truly a fine officer and supervisor and a tremendous void is present within your department and community. I served 25 years with the Enid Police Department, and will always be a police officer. May God Bless and Keep you all in his loving care. Heaven has gained another angel in blue.

We have another Angel in Blue in heaven.
There is no doubt that you are looking down on us protecting us in the palm of your hands. We may have lost you, but Heaven has gained you and there couldn't be a better place to be than there with our Lord. You'll always be missed and remembered.

Greg I feel such a giant void in my heart with you gone. The only comfort is knowing where you are now. I sat by the west door the other day and it hit me so hard that I will never again be there and you walk up to talk and smile at me to make sure everything with my children and I were okay. You were one of a kind a true friend, kind man and a great comfort when I lost my mom, dad, brother and at the end of my marriage it was you who was there to tell me I was strong and I would overcome and you would smile that amazing smile of yours and it would make me smile in return. You will always be remembered by me for the wonderful man you were.

What a true blessing it has been to know such a Servant of God and a true hero. I have worked with GPPD for just less than a year, but Sgt. Hunter made me feel like I have been part of the
"family" from the very beginning.
My husband Capt. Jimmy Stewart of the Grand Prairie Fire Dept. was the first paramedic to reach his side after he had been shot. This has impacted both of our lives more that words can say.
You are a choosen man of God! Your family will be in our prayers always.
I can't wait until I see you again....and hear you say....."Lisa Stewart...how are you doing today?"
Today my friend....my heart cries for you and your family. You will never be forgotten. Then memories of you will be etched in our hearts for all eternity.
Thank you for being a man of God, for being the leader that you were, and for being my friend. I will miss you!!

Thank you for spending your life protecting us so that we, as a community can be safe from the dangers that are out there. How tragic that your life was cut short by a deranged maniac with no regard for human life. We will always remember you and your ultimate sacrifice. I didn't know you but, from everything everyone who ever met/knew you had to say, you were the epitome of a perfect police officer, father, husband, mentor and man. I live in Grand Prairie and thank you from the bottom of my heart. It's unfortunate that it's times such as this that we are reminded just how dangerous poice officers lives are each and every day. I still cry when I think about what happened to you as I was home that tragic day and say the events unfold on t.v. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. May God bless you and protect your resting soul.

From the hills, from the lake,
From the sky.
All is well, safely rest,

Fades the light; And afar
Goeth day, And the stars
Shineth bright,
Fare thee well; Day has gone,
Night is on.

Thanks and praise, For our days,

I am a deputy sheriff in Florida. I visit this site on a regular basis to pay tribute to our fallen brothers. When I saw the Memorial for Sgt. Gregory Hunter, it made me realize that the same thing could happen to me at any time. The "suspicious vehicle" call is one that all officers respond to on a regular basis. There is no doubt that Sgt. Hunter and the assisting officer saved lives when they interveined with that individual's plans. And it will never be known how many more lives might be saved by this terrible tragedy. I know that I will think of Sgt. Hunter whenever I respond to similar calls, and it may save my own life one day.
Thank You Sgt. Hunter.

Sgt. Hunter, I only got to know you for a short time but in that time you showed me the kind of officer I want to be. The kind of officer that you were. Like a lot of the other officers have said, I would hear my name yelled down the hall. I would turn and see that big smile! Or I would see you in the locker room and you would ask me how I was doing. And when ever you saw me on my Harley, you would give me the sign to "throtle up", then you would cover your ears. It always made me smile. I know in my heart that your last call saved alot of lives. Only God knows what other deaths might have come that day had you and Seix not been there. Thank you!
John 16:22...That is how it is with you: now you are sad, but I will see you again, and your hearts will be filled with gladness, the kind of gladness that no one can take away from you.
John 16:32-33...The time is comming, and is already here, when all of you will be scattered, each one to his own home, and I will be left all alone. But I am not really alone, because the Father is with me. I have told you this so that you will have peace by being united to me. The world will make you suffer. But be brave! I have defeated the world!

PSA. 86 - HEAR, O LORD AND ANSWER ME FOR I AM POOR AND NEEDY. GUARD MY LIFE, FOR I AM DEVOTED TO YOU, YOU ARE MY GOD, SAVE YOUR SERVANT WHO TRUSTS IN YOU..Greg, my wonderful friend you were my friend for more than 20 years, and my negotiator partner for many of those years. We asked a question to negotiator applicants..could you still negotiate if the suspect had shot and even killed one of your friends? I remember the long discussion that we had over that question you and I. You asked me "COULD YOU DO IT?". My immediate answer was "yea", but you asked me again "could you?". When we reflected I honestly told "I dont know if I could". Then you reminded me..if it ever happens you have to maintain your call and professionalism because what you do on that telephone or dont do, means that someone may have to go up to that house, building or car and might get hurt, do everything to keep our boys safe first and foremost. I have carried that with me since. My friend, I found out what that question truly meant, June 18th at the Wal-Mart. As I started the 2nd round of one-sided negotiations, by accident I found out you had expired from your injuries..I had to stop, look around at our troop, recall your words, compose myself, cry out to GOD then carry on in your honor and duty you would have required..that no-one else get hurt. My beloved friend I will miss you so much, I will miss discussing negotiations with you even though you weren't on the team, I will miss having church with you in the hallways of the PD, I will miss your presence and leadership..Thank you for your wisdom and discernment that has helped me grow. With all my love to you my Christian brother....Almazan
