Rob will be missed greatly by his brothers and sisters in blue, here in Birmingham. We will continue to pray for his family.
Rob considered his position as a police officer to be a calling from God. As such he worked very hard at it. May God grant him rest and his peace.

Dear Bennett family and friends,
I am sorry to hear about your loss. Only a coward would shoot a police officer. Please take some comfort in two verses from the Bible: "Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted." Matt. 5:4 and "Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called the Children of God." Matt. 5:9. God Bless.

Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished, an officer's final tour of duty is finished. "Officer Down", is our greatest fear, and once again I hold back a tear.

To the family of Officer Bennett:
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
I know we don't understand why things like this happen but it is comforting to know that God is still the same God today , yesterday and forever. I lost my father at 12 and I know what it's like to lose someone you love; its going to be a hard long road but just remember that God is there and is going to take care of you.

To the family, friends and co-workers of Ofc Bennett,
I was so horrified to hear that yet another officer was gunned down in the line of duty. My family is trying to cope with the loss of my son-in-law, Ofc Mark Sawyers (E.O.W. 6-5-04) of the Sterling Hts. MI police department after he was shot while sitting in his patrol car writing a report. My daughter is also now a young widow with a one yr old baby.
I pray for Robert's wife and child that one day they will find peace, if that is ever possible. I believe that Robert will be your guardian angel now and forever. May his love for both of you shine through in his child's eyes.

If you could see me now;
I'm walking streets of gold,
If you could see me now;
I'm standing tall and whole,
If you could see me now;
You'd know the pain's erased;
If you could see me now;
You wouldn't want me to leave this perfect place,
If you could see me now.....if you could only see me now.
I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the entire Bennet family,And to the Birmingham PD.

My heat goes out to you during this very difficult time. My father was a police officer for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for over 30-years, and every day I worried for his safety. Just know, that Office Bennett is in a much better place now, and will be smiling down on you forever.

Another sad day for law enforcement has come to pass. For the family of Officer Bennett, know that his coworkers will forever be there for you. Know that others have been in your shoes and know your pain. For the coworkers and especially the surviving officer, be at peace. Know that everything you could have done, you did. No one knows why these things happen. All we can do from day to day is fulfill our civic duty and pray that we all go home at the end of the shift. Trust in God to help you through this difficult time. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless.
