Reflections for Officer C. Robert Bennett
The best way to express sadness for the deaths of Officer Bennett and his two fellow officers and the anger toward their assailants is to support in every way possible the efforts of the police officers who survive them.
My thanks to all the officers who have died in the line of duty and those officers who put their lives on the line every time they step onto the streets. My prayers and condolences to their families. May God keep all of you within His protective arms and reward you for your unselfish devotion in upholding the rule of law that He has given to us....James R. Bosarge, Jr.

There are but two persons who protect the sinful human race from destroying itself. One is God's Holy Spirit. The other is the Peace Officer. Without them, we would all perish at each other's hands.
You were called into this profession and our Lord and Savior has blessed you because:
According to Romans 13.1-5...
God ordains the Peace Officer’s profession.
The Peace Officer is sent by God.
The Peace Officer is vested with God's authority to enforce the law.
A Peace Officer's badge is to be honored by us, because it is honored by God.
To the family of Officer Charles Robert Bennett and the Birmingham Police Department, your extended family of Law Enforcement Officers grieves with you during this time. I pray that God will wrap his loving arms around each of you and comfort you during this most difficult time.
You gave the ultimate sacrifice for your fellow man, your life.
While serving, defending, and protecting others in your community.
Rest easy with our other fallen Brothers and Sisters, we have the watch now.
To all my brothers and sisters, please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Please pray for this officer's family, agency, and friends as they struggle with this tragedy.
May God be with you every day, please remember, we are a part of the largest family in the world and when one hurts we all hurt.
Though our badges and uniforms may be different, our mission is the same. We will continue the fight in your honor.

I didn't even know him, but I do know that it takes a special person to be a Police Officer. To give the ultimate sacrifice for the safety of others is the most honorable sacrifice one could ever make. He is still watching over us, only now he is doing it from a much more beautiful place. Now not only does he have a badge but he also has a pair of wings.
May God be with his family and friends

Please accept my deepest, heartfelt sympathy for the loss of these 3 fine officers. I know what all the survivors of these enormous tragedies are going through, as I lost my only child almost a year ago due to a drunken cokehead; Dep. Sheriff Charles Sease E.O.W. July 5, 2003. Bless you all: the families and the men of the Birmingham Police Dept. Jay Stewart

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.
Today, June 19, 2004 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Police Officer Charles Robert Bennett, Police Officer Harley Chisholm III, and Police Officer Carols Owens who died in the line of duty just two days ago.
When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.
Officer Bennett's, Officer Chisholm's and Officer Owens' sacrifice will never be forgotten.

To Officer Bennett, Owens, and Chisholms Families:
First let me extend my heartfelt sympathy to you all. The unexpected and sudden death of someone you love can be overwhelming as you face these first numbing days of grief. In the days, weeks, and months ahead you will all be in our prayers. May God give you comfort to heal your broken heart, peace in acceptance and hope and assurance that life will once again be filled with happiness and love. In the days ahead, please be kind and patient with yourselves and know that grieving takes time. May you draw strength and support from each other in the difficult days ahead and know that the prayers from others will be with you in spirit.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Sincerely,

Rob and family,
I met you several years ago, long before you became a police officer. Each morning as I passed my uniforms over the counter, you greeted me with a smile. you ask how things were going and wished me well as I walked out the door. Some days we had a few minutes to chat and others it was a quick pass.
Then a few years ago, while on an incident, A young man walked up. Clean pressed, well groomed and ready for action. I was not sure what to think, did you borrow a uniform or was this for real. It was for real; you had joined the ranks of the many in blue. Under the strong hand of your T.O. ready for action and ready to learn.you started your career of protecting and serving. As time passed we bumped together here and there. We handled the business at hand and then moved to the street. We had time to shake each other’s hand, talk about the day and move to the next one. As time passed you moved to a beat. Each incident we shared you had our back and controlled the scene. These things were the beginnings of a great officer. Each time we parted ways you left me with a smile. I thank you brother for the many good days. I thank you for your friendship; I thank you for your dedication and professionalism. We will miss you but never forget you. I will see you again, I am not sure when, check the book and hold my seat for I look forward to seeing that smile again

The Officers were serving a misdemeaner warrant......this just shows that anytime we go out on a run whether considered dangerous or not-so-dangerous it can turn out bad! Thanks to all three Officers for doing their job. I want to let the families know that I am thinking of them. I am so sorry for their losses!
