Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Andy Thaddeus Bailey

I worked at JPD with Sgt. Bailey for 4 years. In those 4 years I can't remember a single time that Sgt. Bailey would walk by me and not stop and say hello. I'll never forget that morning when my husband and I found out what had happened. Life at JPD has definately changed without Sgt. Bailey around. We all miss him very much. His memory will live in us forever. To his family: My thoughts and prayers are still with you even now, a year later. Sgt. Bailey was truely a hero in every way. I feel honored to have known him. - M. & T. Long -

If you are able, save for them a place inside of you and save one backward glance when you are leaving for the places they can no longer go, Be not ashamed to say you loved them, though you may or may not have always, Take what they have left and what they have taught you with their dying and keep it with your own, And in time when men decide and feel safe to call the streets insane, take one moment to embrace those gentle heroes you left behind. We will see you in Elysium…

I was a new Officer at the time Sgt. Bailey made that ultimate sacrifice. I was still at the academy. Sgt. Bailey's sacrifice made the realities of law enforcement real to me for the first time. I did not know Sgt. Bailey that well but he was a brother whose legacy has made me a better Officer today.

Sgt Bailey was my supervisor. I was the primary officer during most of the pursuit, and I was one of the officers involved in the shootout. I could not leave these comments until now; the criminal pleaded guilty on Feb 23rd and is now serving life in prison without parole. Andy Bailey did his duty to the very end, he helped to stop a dangerous felon and gave his life to do so. He died honorably, killed in combat. Andy was a good boss and a good guy. Rest in peace, sarge.

~~~~~The Broken Chain~~~~~
We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name.~~In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.~~It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone; for part of us went with you, the day God called you home.~~You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.~~Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; but as God calls us one by one, the Chain will link again.
Although months have passed by I still have a personal feeling about Sgt. Baily a person I never knew. Neither him or his fellow officers knew that I was prepairing to block off a street as the dispatcher was giving out their prusuit locations. When I heard the radio traffic of what had happened my heart sunk. From what I have heard other officers say there is no doubt that God had other details for him in heaven. May God wrap his arms around your family, friends, and fellow officers to give them comfort. God Speed to Sgt. Baily
I worked second shift last year and Sgt. Bailey was on first. I can still remember the morning when he called and woke me up to tell me that they couldn't find my warrant on an arrest the night before. His voice alone would make you smile.
It seemed unreal when I was told what happened. Something like this isn't supposed to happen. It still doesn't make sense and it never will. I did have a sense of peace and hope reading what others wrote regarding Sgt. Bailey.
God Bless the family of Sgt. Bailey, the men and women who have taken the time to offer words of comfort and support, my fellow brothers and sisters in blue and may you finally rest in peace, my hero, Sgt. Bailey.
A PART OF AMERICA DIED
Somebody killed a policeman today, and
A part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With his counsel demanding his rights,
While a widowed Mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he’d gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won’t fly at half-mast,
To his name, they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today.
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie’s side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died.
Sgt. Bailey, there is nothing that can be said that would measure up to what a man like you deserves. You almost made it, worked all those years, and never got the chance to enjoy retirement. I would like to say to the family,"please understand that God does have a plan and that He is the right there with you." It's hard to understand at times, but in the end we will. Brother thanks for all the wonderful things that you have did over your thirty plus years. You are truly a hero and I hope that you rest in peace....Well Done Brother and Thank You...
I've looked at this web site for along time, prior to work on a regular basis.I've been able to learn alot from this site.The one thing I never fully understand is why so many good Officers are taken from us like this. Yet the scum that did this to this brother in blue still lives. I have only my theory, God is Ready for this type of Hero,Man,Officer,Husband,Son, and Father. The coward that did this to him was not wanted!..rest easy. From all of us at GPPD/TX.
Andy I remember when you first came to work. A small quite man with little to say. I never say you mad or upset, just doing your job without any complaints. You were a true Police officer, one we tend to over look because you did your job so well and so quitely.
Rest easy now you've earned the time. We'll stay the watch you've left behind.
We'll keep your memory forever dear
We'll watch your family, never fear.
Rest in peace I quitely say
Your memory with me day to day.
The legacy.
When i die, give what is left of me to children. If you need to cry, cry for your brothers walking beside you.
Put your arms around anyone and give them what you need to give to me.
I want to leave you with something...something better than words or sounds, look for me in the people i have known and loved.
And if you cannot live without me, then let me live on in your eyes, your mind and your acts of kindness.
You can love me most by letting hands touch hands, and letting go of children that need to be free.
Love does not die....people do.
So when all that is left of me is love......give me away.
