Sergeant Bailey, you are a warrior and hero in every sence of the words. Thirty-one years of dedicated police service . . . thirty-one years and you were still "10-8", still out there, on the street, displaying that genuine trait of true warriors . . . the inherent need to protect the members of their communities, and doing so at the known risk of serious bodily harm or death. We all have given "some," you my brother, have given "all". I know in my heart that there will be a very special place for you among the thousands of blue angels who will readily accept into their ranks. I wish I could have known you . . . I know you must have been a quality individual personally, in addition to professionally. Sergeant, nobody can ask any more of you . . . you have given your all . . . go rest high on that mountain . . . we will proudly cover your post on the thin blue line. I honor you, your name, your memory, and mostly, for the ultimate sacrifice you've made. With brotherly love and utmost respect, Jim Crotty (Former Richmond, VA Police Officer.)

My heart goes out to the friends and family of SGT Bailey, so close to retirement and something like this has to happen, it doesnt sound like he took the easy road and stayed off the street until his retirement came around. A true warrior....

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).
Unfortunately, I had to add the name of another friend. Deputy Jeffrey Hewitt, Buncombe County (NC) Sheriff’s Department, E.O.W. April 4, 2004.
We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.
These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.
